The Philips Watchman lamp was offered by Philips during the early 1990s. It was unique in fact that it has two filaments: a main filament and a 20 watt back up filament. The purpose of this setup is that when the main filament fails, the 20 watt back up filament would continue to light, improving safety in areas where a light bulb burnout would be hazardous, such as dark areas like basements, outdoors, etc. The Watchman became part of the ill-fated IQ Line of lamps (in the IQ line it was called "Back-Up"), and this lamp was dropped when the entire IQ line was dropped.
