This Westinghouse Turtle Lite was apparrently named so because they were rated to last 2500 hours, 3 times longer than 750 hour bulbs. That makes a proportion that in real life it is said that some turtles live a long time. Not surprisely, these bulbs were guaranteed to last 2 years, based on daily use of 4 hours each day. Another thing that makes Turtlelites distinctive from other bulbs is the unique, angular DC-19 shape (same shape, but larger than the DC-17 Super Bulb). While the Turtlelite line was very popular and sold in volumes, they were dropped sometime in the early 1980s. The 1983 Westinghouse catalog I have no longer listed them. This was prior to Philips' buyout of Westinghouse's lighting division, but they re-used the DC shape on the ill-fated IQ light bulb line during the mid 1990s. Funny thing, they also repeated the 2 year guarantee on the current and popular Halogena line.

Note the turtle's head is the shape of the bulb itself, LOL! This 2 pack of bulbs was made in December 1977, but even this early the bulbs already have unsupported filaments! Most 1970s American light bulbs still had supported filaments, however Westinghouse was the first to do unsupported filaments.
