Westinghouse introduced the unique T-19 Eye Saving lamp back in the late 1950s. They were advertised in 1959 as the "New Shape" The T-19 shape was designed so that it permits a broader light distribution onto the lamp shades producing more light out of the lamps and makes light easier on the eyes. Later versions (in the 1970s) were rated to last 33% longer than standard bulbs. In mid-1985 the T-19 lamps were re-branded as Philips follow a take-over that occured two years earlier. In Feburary 1997 Philips, desiring to go to a one lamp SKU, finally discontinued the T shape in favor of the familar A shape. I miss the T-19 shape and hope it will return someday. I finally had the chance to determinate the date code, this particular bulb is quite old, dating to May 1961, only two years after their debut. It has a 29 cent stamp on the bulb, price stamps were common on Westinghouse bulbs in those days. Best of all, it still works!

The large Westinghouse etch is typical on 1960s Westingouse Eye Saving bulbs. Starting in 1970 they went to a simple, straight lined etch which would continue unchanged until the switch to the Philips brand.
