As a child a long time ago, I remembered these Action-Tungsram light bulbs, and how popular they were. Back in those days, almost every discount store had those. They intrigued me because they differed from typical US light bulbs such as GE or Westinghouse because of their foreign PS-19 shape rather than the US style A-19 shape. I was also intrigued by the brass bases and the insulators with flutes where it connects with the lower rim of the base, and also the filaments in those bulbs were off-set to the side, and they were purposely made that way. Also another interesting trait is that these bulbs were packaged differently than the US bulbs is that these bulbs were sold in 3, 4, and 5 packs and the bulbs themselves are in their own individual boxes...apparrently this is an European design. These bulbs were offered in regular A-19 lamps ranging from 25 to 100 watts in soft white, inside frosted, and bug lights. A 150 watt A-21 also exist with a C-9 filament, and 3-Way inside frosted A-21s also exist. Later on, Action Tungsram changed the name on their bulbs to "Safe-T" which took place in the mid 1980s...then in 1990 GE bought out Tungsram and the bulbs were renamed to Tungsram, and were finally fitted with aluminum bases but production remained in Hungary. However during the 1990s the popularity of Tungsram bulbs dropped off, and these days they are almost never seen in stores.

See the fluted inner edge of the insulator, interesting isn't it?

A 3-Way Action Tungsram lamp, also made in Hungary.
