Famous Generals in the War

Info on famous generals in the Civil War.

The Bloodiest War

Over 3 million men fought in the Civil War.....60,000 died. The main cause of the Civil war was Sectionalism. Sectionalism was when the south seceded from the United States. The south was known as the Confederate States of America. Another cause was slavery, which was the cause of Sectionalism. Throughout this war, there were 31 battles. The worst battle of the Civil War was the battle of Antietam. It was the bloodiest battle in this war.

The Civil war was fought in 10,000 places. Battles would be fought in people's own homes. The war was to preserve the Union.....but many soldiers fought for their freedom. On April 9, 1865, General E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses Grant at the Appomattox Court House......that was one of the last battles of the Civil War. After that, general Ulysses Grant made some terms to the surrender. The terms were that each soldier got to go home and Lee agreed. Finally the war had ben over.........all that was left was the reconstruction. During the reconstruction, the 14th amendment (which meant that everyone had equal protection of the law) and the 15th amendment(which meant that anybody can vote no matter what race) were made. The slaves were finally free.....but only from harsh labor......not from harsh treatment.
