"Gnome" is a generic title, not to be confused with our usual conception of the gnome often depicted in books. Their form and shape are "earthy" in nature. They cannot fly, they can be burned in fire, and they grow old in much the same manner as humans.
Various types of entities fall in to this general category, each with its own level of consciousness. These beings work and maintain the physical structure of Earth. They help create colour in nature and our lives. They assist us in tying into the Earth's energies and in understanding how to use those hidden forces.
The gnomes are needed to build flowers, plants, and trees. It is their task to tint them, to make minerals and crystals and to maintain the Earth so that we have a place to grow and evolve. They are beings of great craftsmanship.
The gnomes guard the treasures of the Earth and when attuned to will help humans to find treasures within the Earth or parts of it. This can be anything from finding the hidden treasure or energy or a crystal to finding gold within one's life.
They work with human primarily though nature. They give each stone its individuality-its own energy. They do this with every aspect of nature. Thus every tree, rock and flower has something to teach us.
Gnomes also work to maintain the physical bodies of humans-composition, assimilation of minerals, etc. Without them we could not function in the physical world. One earth elemental is usually assigned to is throughout our life to maintain our physical vehicles (bodies). It is through this intimate connection that they can evolve and become ensouled. They are affected by what we do so much that if we abuse our body, we harm the elementals assigned to us. This elemental helps us become aware of our physical senses and to develop a reliance on them. They assist us with endurance and persistence and help us look out for ourselves, giving us the quality of caution.
Clues to tell you if you have too little connection with your personal gnome and other earth elementals are these. You may feel "spaced out", have tendencies to ignore the requirements of survival and the body, or become lost in a world of imagination. Too much connection can result in narrowness of vision, being overly practical, cynical, or skeptical. Its energies (or rather lack thereof) can make us overly cautious and conventional and you may become suspicious and unimaginative.
By attuning to our personal gnome and its energies more directly, we can develop determination and appreciation. We develop openness to its influence, which can assist us in becoming more spontaneously helpful and humble.
