The sylphs are the most close in line with our concept of faeries and angels than any other elemental beings. They are a part of the creative force of the air, and it is their work that results in the tiniest of breezes to the mightiest of tornados.
Air is the source of all life energy and it is essential to life. We can go without food or water for extended periods, but we cannot live without air for any extended period of time. It is essential for our very existence.
Not all sylphs are restricted to working and living in the air. Many of the sylphs are of high intelligence and work to maintain the creation and proper currents or air. When you breathe deeply and notice a sweet freshness in the air, you are acknowledging their work.
Some serve special functions in regards to human activity. Some may work to alleviate pain and suffering, and others may work to stimulate inspiration and creativity. One of their more specialized tasks is to help children who have just passed over. They can also serve as temporary "guardian angels" or spirit guides until we open ourselves fully and enable ourselves to be drawn to a permanent one.
A sylph is assigned to each human throughout life. This sylph helps us to maintain our mental body and development. Thus our thoughts, good or bad, are what most affects them. They help stimulate new knowledge and inspiration, and they work to cleanse and uplift our thoughts and intelligence. They assist us in using the intuitive and the rational together.
On a physical level, our personal sylph works to help assimilate oxygen from the air we breathe, and to maintain all the functions in air in and around us. Exposure to pollution, smoking, etc. affects their appearance and their effectiveness within our lives.
They often show themselves in human-like form and are so asexual to the point where they inspire this in others (People with strong sylph activity often find that sexuality is not high on their list of priorities, and the often don't understand how this is with others). While this can indicate a disconnection with the feeling aspect, we must be careful about making assumptions. The sylphs stimulate different expressions of the creative, sexual drive into other avenues of life, such as work. Care should be taken though not to allow such to become extreme, as we all need a balance of the elementals.
Too much connection with the air spirits can make for an overactive mind that must be controlled and guided. It can create a dabbler. It may also show itself through a paralysis of will (from too much analyzing) or a highly active nervous system, which results in a need for frequent change. It may show itself in various forms of eccentricity and fanaticism, along with a general lack of emotion and sensitivity. It may also manifest itself through a detachment from the physical, mundane activities of life.
A deprivation of connection to those of this realm, including our personal sylph, may present itself with impaired perceptions, lack of common sense, and an involvement in continual actions and feelings yet you become unable to reflect on life. You may demonstrate an inability to gain perspective. It can also cause a weak nervous system, and little or no curiosity or imagination.
Sylphs bring inspiration, and they most strongly affect our mental faculties. Learning to connect with your personal sylph will facilitate the assimilation of new knowledge, and work with us to expand our wisdom. They are good to work with when it comes to the home and property. Their energy is so strong that they can make intruders confused, worried, or think twice about entering your environment.
A connection with your personal sylph can open us to the realm of archetypal ideas. It will assist us in coordinating our perceptions and verbalizing them. It can stimulate mental balance, freedom, and curiosity. Our personal sylph is controlled through constancy. A consistent life or approach to life is best.
