An £850,000 Toon house for Woody

SOCCER star Jonathan Woodgate has splashed out £850,000 on a
magnificent mansion...miles away from the temptations of any wild
nightlife.

The £9million Newcastle United defender went for the six-bedroom
detached home in an area known as one of the most upmarket
residential addresses on Tyneside, Darrahiss Hall. New team-mate Alan
Shearer lives just around the corner.

The modern detached - called Little Beck II - stands behind imposing
wooden gates.

It boasts six bedrooms, one with a spiral staircase, large double-
ended Jacuzzi air bath, orangery and spectacularly landscaped
gardens, leading down to the tiny beck which gives the property its
name.

United were keen for their star signing to buy away from Newcastle's
city centre clubs and bars and the raucous nightlife of the Quayside.

Woodgate, 23, was sentenced to 100 hours' community service for his
part in an attack on Asian student Safraz Najeib three years ago.

A Toon insider said: "His manager Sir Bobby Robson will be glad that
he has bought somewhere quiet, away from the bright lights.

"It represents a sound investment of his signing-on fee."
