Woodgate: Hard case, soft nails

Footie star Jonathan Woodgate ensured he'll turn in a polished
performance for England - by treating himself to a manicure.

The 22-year old defender celebrated his recall to Sven Goran
Eriksson's squad for Saturday's clash with Portugal with a trip to a
beauty parlour.

RUBBED
The Leeds United defender took a leaf out of skipper David Beckham's
book and forked out £16 for a relaxing file and polish at the Toni &
Guy salon near his home in Middlesbrough.

One customer said "Some people recognised him and i think he was
embarrassed at first."

"But it looked like he was quite enjoying having his hands rubbed and
pampered".

"Maybe the entire England squad will start having beauty treatments
so they look nice when they go on the field".

Fashion fan Woodgate, who once splashed out £1,000 on a pair of gold
buttoned jeans, couldn't resist the hand treatment when he called in
for a haircut.

Friends say that the £1 million-a-year star is 'delighted' at his
return to the England squad. He and Leeds teamate Lee Bowyer had
been cast into the international wilderness for two years while they
stood trial for allegedly attacking 19-year-old student Sarfraz
Najeib.

Bowyer was cleared of all charges, but Woodgate was found guilty of
affray and has carried out his sentance of 100-hours community
service.
