Venebles checks on
Woodgate
Terry Venables will
check on Jonathan Woodgate's fitness on Monday
after the defender needed eight stitches in a gashed knee against
Rangers.
The 22-year-old suffered the injury in last Wednesday's friendly
against the Ibrox giants after a challenge from Fernando Ricksen.
United's medical staff have been assessing the player since then,
with Venables admitting last Thursday that the situation was "not
good".
It remains likely Woodgate will miss this weekend's Premiership
opener against Manchester City, although there is better news for
Mark Viduka.
The Aussie hitman missed the Rangers game and the recent friendly at
Barnsley with an Achilles injury, but he was able to play for an hour
in a specially-arranged practice match behind closed doors on
Saturday.
Viduka should be fit to lead the attack this weekend, but skipper
Dominic Matteo sat out the practice game with a groin strain.
