Chloe and Riley's bedroom

It was 4am. It had been raining for the past week in Malibu. Chloe was fast asleep and wasn't woken by the thunder or lightning. She was having the best dream. She was in New York. However, that wasn't the best part. The best part was she was dancing with the Rockets. (Can't spell. But I'm not talking about space shuttles. Lol). She was the lead of it and had a white satin gown on with a fur trim. The audience gave her a standing ovation at the end.

"Thank you! Thank-you!" She called out in her sleep.

Riley turned over when she heard Chloe. Sleepily she got out of bed.

"Chloe." Riley said shaking her. "Chloe." She said again.

Chloe jumped up. She looked and got disappointed. Where was the stage? Where were the fans? She finally realized it was all a dream. She turned to a grumpy Riley and smiled.

"I had the best dream Riley. I was in.. " Chloe started.

"I'd love to hear about it, but if you didn't notice, it's 4am. GO To sleep." Riley said getting back in bed.

Chloe laid back down. Lightning flashed in the room then thunder struck. Chloe jumped, as did Riley.

"Riley?" said Chloe scared.

Riley sat up.

"Come on." She said moving over so Chloe could fit. Chloe jumped out of bed and into Riley's.

"So can I tell you my dream?" Chloe asked.

Riley turned over.

Theme Song

~*~

It was Saturday morning. Everyone was sound asleep, except Manneulo. He was cleaning. He put in his Beach Boys CD and danced as he cleaned the kitchen counters.

"Wish they all could be California girls." He sang.

Macy came down the stairs and laughed.

"Go Manny, Go Manny." She said cracking up.

Manneulo grabbed Macy's hand and they twirled around the kitchen. Chloe and Riley enter.

"Oh my god." Riley said.

Chloe laughed and joined in on the fun. Riley just grabbed a Snapple from the refrigerator and went back up stairs.

"What's wrong with Riley?" Macy asked turning off the music.

"Beats me, but mom get dressed. You have to take my to ballet." Chloe said.

"Alright. All right. What is the hurry? You're never this excited about dance." Macy said.

Riley entered again.

"Oh but mom." Riley said sarcastically. "Chloe is going to be a rocket (sp?)." Riley said looking at Chloe.

Chloe gave Riley a dirty look.

"Shut-up dork. At least I have talent. All you can do is ride a horse and let me tell you, it takes a rocket scientist to do that." Chloe said. Steam came out of Riley. She bolted towards Chloe to hit her, but Macy stopped them.

"Chloe! Riley! What is going on with you two? I am only going to say this once. This arguing ends now. Have I made myself clear?" Macy asked.

"Yes." They say at the same time.

"Good. Now go get ready for your lessons." Macy said. The girls head upstairs.

Dance Class

Chloe's teacher had asked her to stay after class. She was nervous. She thought she did something wrong.

"Hey Chloe. Sorry to keep you waiting." She said.

"No prob. jenny." Chloe said. (Chloe used a first name basis with their teacher, because they were close.) " is something wrong?" Chloe asked.

"No way. This is good news. I have to choose one of my students to go with me to The Los Angles Ballet next week. The student is to compete with 12 other students from different classes. The winner then gets to go to New York City ballet for an audition for the Rockets. Chloe it would be an honor if you would go." Jenny said smiling.

"Me?" Chloe asked confused and excited.

"Who else. You are my best student. And you have so much talent." Jenny said.

"The dream." Chloe said.

"What? What dream?" Jenny asked.

Chloe explained her dream to Jenny.

"Well, Chloe this isn't a dream. It's for real." Jenny said.

Chloe gave Jenny the biggest hug ever.

The stables

Riley was in such a bad mood. She wasn't even trying to do well. Was Chloe right? Did she not have any talent? Riley wasn't paying attention to what she was doing. She was grooming her horse. Her teacher called. She walked around the horse like she new she wasn't suppose to do. Riley dropped the brush. As she went to pick it up, the horse kicked its back legs at Riley. She went flying. Her teacher came running to her.

"Riley? Riley?" he said.

She wasn't moving. He went for help.

~*~

The hospital

Riley wasn't hurt to bad. She had to get stitches under her left eye, and she had a bruise from when she fell on her arm.

"Riley can come back next Friday, to get the stitches removed. Otherwise, I would recommend applying ice to the eye, because it is going to bruise." The doctor said.

"Okay. Thank-you doctor." Jake said.

He looked at Riley.

"Ready honey?" he asked.

"I guess." Riley said.

"What's wrong honey?" Jake asked.

"Nothing. Whereas mom?" Riley asked.

"She went to get Chloe from dance. She had some good news. But Mom doesn't know you're in the hospital. I got the call." Jake said.

They left.

~*~ Kitchen

Chloe and Macy coming running in.

"Manny dad guess what!" Chloe yells in excitement.

"Where's Riley?" Macy asked.

"I tried to get you on your cell phone. She was at the hospital." Jake said.

"What!" Macy said. "What happened?" she asked.

"She got kicked by her horse in the eye. She had to get stitches, nothing to serious, but she is in her room." Jake said.

Macy ran upstairs.

"So what's this good news I hear about?" Jake asked.

Chloe wasn't that happy anymore. She wondered if Riley was okay.

"Nothing to big. I just.." she told her dad.

Chloe and Riley's Room

Chloe walked into her room. Riley was watching TV. She looked up.

"Hey. Congrats on your dance thing. I guess you were right." Riley said.

Chloe looked confused.

"Right about what?" she asked.

"Well having talent. You were right, I can't even ride a horse, I can only get hit by them." Riley said.

Chloe felt bad. She was a real jerk to Riley. She sat on Riley's bed and turned off the TV.

"Listen Riley. I just said you didn't have talent because I was mad at you. I didn't really mean it. I'm really sorry." Chloe said.

Riley got even madder. " what. You think you can just take back what you said. You wouldn't have said it, if you didn't mean it!" Riley shouted.

"What are you talking about! Calm down." Chloe yelled.

"Just get out and leave me alone. Don't you have to practice twirling?" Riley said.

"You know what." Chloe said mad. "Falling off a horse is one thing, but being kicked in the eye by one. Well that must be pretty embarrassing." Chloe said slamming the door.

Chloe's harsh words stuck in Riley's mind.

~*~ Chloe spent the next week rehearsing for her comeption. She spent her every waking hour practicing. Her and Jenny were having a great time.

"Well Chloe, tomorrow's the big day." Jenny said.

"I know." Chloe said upset.

"What's wrong?" Jenny asked.

"Nothing." Chloe said trying to smile.

"I know there is. I can tell." Jenny said.

"See that's the thing." Chloe said.

"What?" Jenny asked.

"Well last week my sister and me got in this huge fight. We haven't spoken all week. I just really need her to tell me everything is going to fine and I'm going to do great. I need her to be there for me." Chloe said with tear in her eyes.

Jenny understood.

"Well have you tried talking to her?" Jenny asked.

"Well. Kind of. I was just to mad." Chloe said.

"Don't worry. You guys can't stay mad at each other forever. Your best friends right?" Jenny asked.

"Yeah." Chloe said.

"Well, best friends are there for each other at hard times and good times." Jenny said uneasy.

Chloe wondered what Jenny meant.

"Look, I've got to go. I'll pick you up tomorrow at 8am. Get a good night's sleep." Jenny said encouraging.

"Thanks Jenny. I don't know what I would do without you." Chloe said. They hugged.

The Carlson house was buzzing the next morning. Everyone was excited for Chloe. Everyone except Riley.

"Now Chloe I know you're going to great. Just remember we are all proud of you no matter how well you do." Macy said hugging Chloe.

Chloe looked at Riley. She turned away. Maneulo came out with a bag of cookies.

"For good luck." He said.

Chloe smiled and took the bag. She again looked at Riley for comfort. She stared away.

Jake walked in the door with a bouquet of Roses and handed them to Chloe.

"Wow Dad! They're beautiful." Chloe said giving him a kiss.

Chloe looked at the clock. It was 8:05.

"We're going to be late. Where is Jenny?" Chloe asked.

"There probably was traffic. I heard there was a big accident on Lexington."Jake said.

"Don't worry she'll be here." Macy said.

Chloe looked at Riley again. She couldn't believe she was being so stubborn.

~*~

"Mom it's 8:30. Do you think she is alright?" Chloe asked.

"Honey. Dad went to drive around, to see if she had car trouble. He'll be back soon with news." Macy said.

But I bet Chloe didn't want to hear the news she was about to receive. Jake walked in. His face was pale. He told everyone to sit down.

"Dad what's wrong!?" Chloe asked.

"Honey. It's the accident." Jake said.

"No!" Chloe yelled.

"Sweetheart. I'm sorry, but Jenny was killed." Jake said.

Tears flowed out of Chloe's eyes like a waterfall. She ran to her room. Macy ran after her, but Riley stopped her.

"No mom. Let me." Riley said. Macy hugged her daughter, then Riley headed upstairs.

Before she went in, she thought about what she was going to say. She had been such a jerk to her sister because she was jealous, and now Chloe lost a friend and role model. She heard Chloe sobbing. When she walked in, Chloe had her face turned into her pillow. Riley sat next to her on her bed and gently rubbed her back.

"Don't worry Chloe. Everything is going to be okay. I'm here for you." Riley said.

Chloe heard those words Riley just spoke and remembered what Jenny had said: " Well, best friends are there for each other at hard times and good times."

Chloe sat up still crying. She looked at her sister, her best friend, and sobbed in her arms. Riley felt helpless, she didn't know what to say. She could tell nothing would ever be the same. Chloe lost an important person in her life, and it was going to take a long time for her to heal. The only thing Riley could do was be there.

~*~

It has been a week since Jenny's death. Chloe didn't attend the funeral and hasn't left her room all week. She had missed school all week, and was going to be behind. She was putting so much more stress on herself. The family tried to talk to her about Jenny, but she didn't even want to hear that name.

Chloe and Riley's room

Riley walked in to find Chloe reading a magazine on her bed, but she could tell she wasn't reading it. She sat down on Chloe's bed.

"Whatcha thinking?" Riley asked.

"What makes you think I'm thinking? I'm reading." Chloe said.

"Chloe. You're holding the magazine upside down." Riley said concerned.

"I think you need to talk to someone." Riley said.

Chloe didn't answer.

"You know you can tell me anything. Right?" Riley said.

"I know." Chloe said.

"Well?" Riley asked.

"I don't really feel like it now." Chloe said innocently.

Riley tried to change the subject.

"Hey there's this great ballet movie on TV downstairs. Do you want to go watch it with me?" Riley asked.

"Riley. You hate ballet. Besides, I've decided to give it up." Chloe said.

"What?" Riley said. This was getting way out of hand.

"Chloe. You can't give up ballet. You have so much talent, so much charisma to burn." Riley said.

"Look. Ballet is something for little kids. I'm never going to get anywhere with it. I'll wind up being some under paid ballet instructor, that dies trying to help a student." Chloe said with tears in her eyes.

"Chloe." Riley said. "Chloe, Jenny dieing was an accident. It wasn't your fault at all. You didn't kill her." Riley said.

Chloe stood up.

"It was my fault. She was on her way to pick me up. She wanted to come earlier, but I insisted 8:oo. I kill her Riley." Chloe cried and fell to her knees.

Riley held her sister and hugged her. She had to get her sister help. She needed to tell her mom what was going on with Chloe.

It was Friday. The day Riley was dreading. She had to got to the hospital to get her stitches out.

"But mom. I can take them out myself. I don't need a doctor to pull it out with a needle." Riley said.

Macy laughed.

"Honey, it's not going to hurt, besides aren't you glad you no longer have a black eye?" Macy asked.

Riley blushed, but decided to joke about her accident.

"We'll I now know, don't go behind a horse." Riley said laughing. Jake laughed.

"Well where's Chloe? Is she doing better?" Jake asked.

"I don't know. She won't talk to me." Macy said.

"I'm getting worried." Jake said.

"You guys. I think Chloe needs to go to therapy or some kind of group. "You know where other people had lost someone." Riley said.

"Why do you think this?" Macy asked.

"Because she thinks she killed Jenny." Riley said.

Macy looked at Jake.

Friday night a week later

Riley and Manny were on the couch watching a Christmas movie. Jake, Macy, and Chloe enter through the front door. They have been attending support group meetings with Chloe for the past week. She seems to be doing much better. She returned to school two days ago and Riley has been helping her out with what she has missed. She was turning back to the loveable Chloe she once was and always will be. She may not be taking ballet just yet, but she is putting her self back together one-day at a time.

Chloe and Riley's room

Chloe sat on Riley's bed with her.

"Hey Riley. Thanks for being a great sister these past few weeks. I'm just really sorry for what was going on between us. I didn't mean anything I said to you when I said you don't have any talent." Chloe said.

"Same for me. Truth is, I admire you." Riley said.

" Really?" Chloe asked.

"Yeah." Riley said.

Chloe hugged Riley and Riley hugged Chloe.

"Now I have just one question." Chloe said.

"Shoot." Riley said.

"How in the world did you get hit by a horse?" Chloe said laughing.

Riley started to laugh too. It was contagious. But the best part was, Chloe was back to normal.

Jake, Macy, and Manny stood outside the girl's door.

"We're going to get threw this." Macy said.

"I think Chloe is already back to normal." Manny said smiling.

"Well, this will always be hard in her, but she is strong. Plus she has four people who will be there for her." Jake said.

The three walked into the girl's room and joined the laughter of Riley's clumsiness. The family grew closer together.
