"It's the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once
that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen."

The Practical Witch
Now, just what do I mean by being a practical Witch? Just that, really...I tend to look at things from a depressingly realistic point of view. (Not that it is a bad way of life) It is reflected in how I live life, perform magick, cast circles and everything else I do. It involves looking at all aspects of a problem, and cheerily pointing out the obvious to those who don't notice something.
But...how does this affect my magick. Well, for one, I don't believe in astrology. WHAT!! A witch who doesn't use the stars?? Ee Gads! How do you survive? See, I study astronomy...the science of the universe, and I know that what some study as Capricorn is really something else. The charts are screwed by history...and the passage of time. For example. The constallations we love today...did not exist a few thousand years ago. Our solar system speeds merrily on its way at thousands of miles per hour creating new constallations and pushing one sign into the house of another. Hence, my failure to believe in astrology.
Also...I accept that people can be "Good" or "Bad" witches. I know most people say there are no such thing, but let's face it...somebody obviously does or the question wouldn't come up. I realize energy is energy, but some use it for good (as they define it) or bad (as they define it). I shy away when somebody says that something cannot exist...since I hold to the principle:
Nothing is impossible, but it can be highly improbable
See the differance? Same thing with "white" and "black" magick. Personally, I regard my magick as "green". No, I am really serious here. When I perform magick..I see green. It is my comfort and calm color. So if I can use "green" why not let someone else choose their own color?
Okay, here's a zinger for you. I don't believe in astrology, but I use the Tarot. Oi Vay! Talk about confusing. I regard the Tarot as a tool to understand myself. It makes me think, and that cannot be a bad thing right? **S** There are no definate answers, because we decide what we want to believe. Hence, I will read for myself, but not for others. I know some people do, and are really good at it, but most are fakes and not reliable. But those who are!! Wow! I belive we have such potential in our brains that some really can "see" what others cannot. I think this is where we get the Saints and Prophets, and at their deaths it is their awsome mental abilites (along with their spirit) that create miracles.
My other thought...I know I don't need anything to create magick. It is within me, It is around me, and I have the ability to direct It at will. My mom can stop her clock by thinking about it...it may take time...but she can do it. I know my most powerful wand is my finger, and all the elements I need for spell componants are contained within myself. This is why I don't use magickal herbs for anything else but healing. I do acknowledge that some believe in the magickal nature of plants, and recognize that it works for them. But it is their Belief that makes them magickal. Pretty powerful huh? It is our belief that determines our power and all the crystals and candles in the world don't mean squat if you don't belive in yourself and your power.
See what I mean...I am practical...
It may seem harsh at first, but I regard it as chasing the chaff from the wheat. This is why my magick will not work for someone else. I cut to the chase and actually have more freedom by removing my limits.
