My Nanny

One thing I remember about Nanny is when I played sick because I didn’t want to go to school. Mom let me stay with Nanny. While Momma was there I acted like I was really sick but as soon as she left I got off the loveseat in the living room and went into the kitchen and Nanny knew I wasn’t sick she was sitting in her chair, where she always sat, drinking coffee. She asked me if I was hungry and I said no I’m sick, she goes I guess I’ll just cook some breakfast for Pa and I said ok maybe just a little bit of eggs. She smiled at me. All day we talked and I helped her out around the house and after Mom got home Nanny said Donald helped me out around the house. Mom said that’s good. Nanny said I am going to pay him a dollar and Mom said no. As we were walking out the door Nanny snuck money in my pocket and winked. I remember when she was in Marietta Hospital on the day she was coming home I held her hand and said I love you Nanny and she looked at me and said I love you Donald Ray. She’ll always be my Nanny.
