The beeping of the alarm woke me up early in the morning. A month had passed since the night we had gone to the club. I hadn't seen Nick since then. I looked at the clock; 7:45. My head ached from working late last night. I turned off the alarm from the clock. I got up and opened the curtains of the room. The rays of sunshine flowed into the room.
The streets outside were busy with people walking there pets or people jogging their morning run. The little market accross the street had already opened. As people waited in line to buy their groceries, kids played on the side walk.
I walked away from the window and headed downstairs. The living room was bright and warm with the light of the sun hitting it. I sat down on the couch still tired and sleepy. I laid my head back onto a cushin that was there. Then the though of checking my messages crossed my head. I stood up and walked over to the answering machine. I pressed the play button on the answering machine:
"You have one new message: Hey Sophie, it's me Alexis. I've been calling you for hours but I can see that you're not awake. Anywyas, I just wanted to tell you that we're meeting at Mr. Swirly's at 8:30 so if you can come go ahead and join us, and if you can't come just give me a call anyways. Ok well, I got to get ready to leave. See ya."
I deleted the message."That sounds like a good idea," I told myself. I went upstairs and took a quick shower. Then after I dressed in some jeans and a tank top. The tank top was black and it had "kitty" written on it with gems. I brushed my ligh brown hair and put it up into a ponytail. The keys for the car lay on a chair next to my bed. I grabbed them and as I headed downstairs to leave.
Out side the car was parked in the left parking lot. I walked over and jumped into the car. I drove to Swirly's which was a popular ice cream store in town. Belle, Alexis, and I always went there. We had been going there since high school. I turned around a block and parked the car. I got out into the streets. There was lots of traffic already since it was a friday morning and people were late getting to work. People yelled at each other and others just honked. Some said bad words to each other and gave others the middle finger.
I stepped into the ice cream shop where it was more calm and serene. A few people sat there. Some read the newspaper and others were talking. I spotted Belle next to a window. She saw some so she smiled and got up. I walked over to the table and hugged her as she hugged me.
"Where's Alexis?" I asked.
"She's in the bathroom."
I sat down accross from Belle. After a few minutes Alexis came out of the bathroom. She looked nice because she was wearing a short beige dress with flowers printed across the middle. She greeted me and then sat doown. We talked for a while about different things. I like being around my friends. They weren't the serious type. In fact they were the loud, noisy, fun to be around kind of people.
"Ok, well it's Sophie's turn to order and pay," Belle said.
I laughed at her comment. "No, I'm serious," she said.
I smiled and stood up,"Fine, but next time it's you turn to pay." She laughed at me and I smacked her softly on the back of the head.
"Hey!" she complained.
I walked over to the counter."Hey, Sophie... the usual?" the man behind the counter greeted me. He turned and smiled at me. It was Otto, he knew me and the others from always coming in early to get 3 vanilla ice creams. He cleaned the counter as he waited for an answer.
I smiled,"Yeah the usual, Otto." The door from the shop opened and the air blew in. I turned to see who it was. A woman stepped in with her two kids. She had a small blonde girl and a little boy who was also blonde. They playfuly hit each other as their mother told them to stop. I turned back to counter where Otto was preparing the ice creams. The door opened once more. I turned again to find Nick coming in. No one else was looking; they were too busy. His eyes met mine and he started to come towards me. Now that the room was so bright I recognized him. He was Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys. I stood there amazed as he came up to me.
"Hey..." he said.
"Oh my God,"
He laughed at my answer,"Do you remember me?"
"Yeah"
"Here you are, that would be $4.50," Otto said handing me the ice creams. I stuck my hand in pocket to get my money, but Nick had already pulled some money out. He handed it to Otto who gave him back his change.
"You didn't have to pay," I told him.
"It's ok, it was no problem for me."
I took two of the ice creams, but the third one didn't fit in my hands. Nick grabbed it for me, and I thanked him.
"Here let me just take these to my friends and I'll go sit with you somewhere else, if that's ok with you?
"Ok, I'll wait for you at that table over there," he said pointing to a table at the corner end of the room.
"Ok, I'll go over there right now."
I headed over to where Belle and Alexis sat. They smiled at me as I gave them their ice creams.
"So, who is he?" asked Belle.
"Someone I met at the club, I'll tell you later about him." Alexis turned to where Nick sat. She looked at me confused,"I can't see him from right here, but he doesn't look familiar to me anyway. I smiled down at her,"I'll tell you about him later."
I walked away from their table and headed to where Nick sat waiting. He smiled as he saw me coming.
I sat down accross from him, and he handed me the ice cream. Nick sat with his back towards the other tables. I faced everyone including Belle and Alexis who seemed to be giving me thumbs up and smiling at me. I laughed at them for acting like dorks. Nick smiled at me and he also laughed at them.
"You'll have to excuse them they're not all there," I said pointing to my head.
He laughed,"I can tell."
"So, what have you been up to lately?"
"Just hanging out and you?" he asked.
"Not much just busy with work that's all."
"I was hoping to find you soon," he said. I blushed at his comment and quickly changed the subject.
"So... what's it like to have all the fame you have and still be able to get around places like this?" I asked him.
"It can be fun sometimes and other times you have to be serious about it. As you can see I sat facing this way so I wouldn't be recognized." He laughed at what he had just said.
"If you don'f feel comfortable here we could go somewhere else," I offered.
"No, its all good."
We talked for a while. I was having so much fun that I lost track of time. I looked down at my watch to check what time it was.
"Oh, my God I'm late for work," I said standing up to leave. Nick stood up to with a worried look on his face.
"It was nice seeing you again, Nick, but I have to go to work, sorry."
"It was nice seeing you again too."
I smiled and started to head out the back way. Nick followed," Let me walk you to your car atleast."
"Ok, go ahead." We walked to the car and we stopped as soon as we got there. I faced him and he stood as if waiting for me to do something.
"Well, I guess this is goodbye for reals now," I said.
"Ummm... listen if you're not doing anything later on, I was wondering if you would like to go to a movie with me?" he asked.
I stood there surprised that he had asked me out and a little embarrased too. I smiled at him weakly and said,"Sure, is tonight ok?"
"Yeah, tonight's fine with me."
"Ok, well I'll see you tonight," I said shyly.
"Great I'll pick you up at 7:00." He waved goodbye as he left and I waved back at him. I opened the door to the car and got it. Then I drove home to change and go to work.
