Chaotic. That's the only word that can be used to describe the day of the wedding. Jessica didn't even have time to think about Nick never mind worry about what she was going to do when she saw him today.
"How can you be so freakin calm??"Jessica asked, popping yet another asperin in her mouth.
"Would you stop popping pills Jessica. You're going to be drugged for my wedding,"Leighanne replied. "I'm not nervous because I know everything's going to be ok. Brian and I have been practically married for three years. Now we're just making it official." She was so cool and collected that it was making Jessica nervous.
Jessica sighed as she watched Leah, Leighanne's close friend, do Leighanne's hair. She was a hair dresser and also one of Leighanne's bride's maids. Leighanne was sitting there in full makeup and in her slip. Jessica had already gone through the hair/makeup/wardrobe thing. She stood there with light, shimmery makeup on her face and her now blond hair was curled and piled on the top of her head with a few tendrils left down. The dresses Leighanne had picked out for the women to wear were silk, form fitting, and gorgeous in an off white color.
"I need a drink,"Jessica muttered.
Leighanne giggled lightheartedly,"My god I'm so happy Jessica. I'm not scared at all. I'm not nervous. Brian's the one, I know it."
Jessica was truely happy for her best friend. Leighanne deserved all of the happiness in the world. "Good Leigh, I'm so glad you're happy."
Leighanne smiled but then her smiled faded,"I only wish you could be as happy as me."
"Don't you dare Leigh. This is your day. Don't even bring up my miserable, petty problems. I will not let you bring yourself down. You WILL be happy and giddy got it?"
Leighanne smirked,"I got it."
"Good,"Jessica replied. "Your hair's turning out really beautiful. You're gonna make a gorgeous bride. I'm probably gonna cry like a little sap."
"No coz if you cry, I'll cry and my makeup will run and so will yours, and it'll just be this whole big mess,"Leighanne said.
The two girls giggled and Jessica said,"I can't believe my best friend in the whole world is running off and getting married."
"Yeah me too, but I know it's the right thing to do because it feels so right ya know?" Leighanne asked and pushed a piece of her honey blond hair out of her face.
"Yeah I know,"Jessica said and she really did. She used to feel that way about Nick. She still did. She felt like reaching into her purse and taking another Tylenol as Nick crossed her mind. She was going to see him today and she really didn't want to.
"I have a headache,"Jessica muttered, putting her petite, freshly manicured hand against her head.
"Well stop stressing out! I'm not even stressed, for Christ's sake!" Leighanne scolded playfully as Leah finished up.
"There, all done. I did a good job if I do say so myself,"Leah smiled and pushed a piece of her dark hair behind her ear.
"It looks great,"Jessica commented.
"Yeah, you really did do a great job Leah,"Leighanne told her friend.
"It was my pleasure sweetie,"Leah smiled. "You really do make a beautiful bride. Brian's gonna pee himself when he sees you. Have you even showed him the dress yet?"
"No. I hid it in our house. He kept bothering me about it though,"Leighanne giggled. "He's such a big kid sometimes!"
Leah and Jessica laughed as Leighanne's mother came running over pulling away her daughter.
"Leigh! You have to get dressed! We have to go into the other room!"Mrs.Wallace said frantically.
Jessica laughed and pulled out her pills,"Here."
Mrs. Wallace groaned,"Thanks, love. I could use one."
"Or five. Geez mom, chill out,"Leighanne said putting her arm around her mother's shoulder. "Come on, before you give yourself a panic attack. Say it with me now. Everything's going to be ok... say it mom! And breath please, you look like you're going to hyperventilate."
Mrs.Wallace breathed then said,"Everything's going to be ok."
"Good, now do you feel better? Promise me you won't go into hysterics when I'm walking down the isle? And look at it this way, you're not losing a daughter, you're gaining a son,"Leighanne said and her mother smiled.
Jessica surveyed the scenes in front of her. It was crazy. Women were running around with dresses and flowers and make up. She wondered how the guys were doing.
Nick was practically crying,"I don't wanna see her!"
AJ groaned and fixed Nick's tie,"Yes you do."
Brian was just like his bride-to-be. Calm. He was talking to his brother, Harold, who was also his best man.
Nick shook his head rapidly.
"Stop that. You're going to give yourself whiplash,"AJ said and smoothed down his own suit.
"Oh god I think I'm gonna puke,"Nick replied, holding his stomach.
AJ rolled his eyes,"Stop with the dramatics Nick. You know how high we are up in this hotel? Huh Nick?"
Nick looked confused but nodded slowly.
"Do you know how far of a fall it is?"
Nick nodded again, still not catching on.
"If you don't shut up in 2 seconds I'm gonna personally throw you out of a window myself. Don't think I'm kidding either. I've just about had enough of your whining. Life's a bitch, deal with it,"AJ said, irritated.
Nick narrowed his blue eyes,"Fine!" He stomped off to talk to Brian.
AJ sighed then set off to find Howie.
"Ok you're going to see the guys now. In a few minutes I'm going to be married,"Leighanne beamed.
"Ok sweetie. I'll talk to you later,"Jessica said, squeezing Leighanne's hand before going to find Harold. She pushed passed the people lining up outside of the church and saw Harold and took her place next to him. Jessica hadn't seen Nick, which she was extremely grateful for. She didn't know what she was going to say to him.
*********
Nick tried not to let his emotions get the best of him. Swallowing the lump that had formed in his throat, he shifted nervously, pushing his now sweaty palms together. Nick knew she was the maid of honor and that she'd be after him in the line. He was very afraid to turn around and look. He didn't want to see her, yet he did. He knew he needed to. Nick heard the soft, lovely music begin to play and he knew that was the cue for them to start walking in. He linked his arm with one of the bride's maids and started to walk slowly into the church behind Kevin and another bride's maid. Once they reached the end of the isle they were supposed to stand off to the side. Nick took his place and looked at the others coming in. That's when he saw her. Stunning as usual. Her eyes haven't spotted him yet. Nick observed her. The dark blond locks were a nice change, the soft makeup lit up her face, and the dress accentuated her womanly curves. Nick's stomach turned and he knew he wanted her back.
*********
Jessica started to walk in. There were too many people ahead of her, which made it impossible to see Nick. Not that she minded all that much. Harold and her were last and it took a while for eveyone to get in. Her stomach had butterflies and she kept her eyes straight ahead at the priest and Brian, not looking to the side. She knew she would see him if she did. All eyes were on Harold and her now. That's when her eyes betrayed her. She glanced to the side and saw Nick staring straight at her. Then it happened. The worst thing that could possibly have happened at the moment. Jessica's shoe got caught in her dress and she tumbled down, taking Harold with her.
