First...I forgot to talk about what happened at my track meet. High Jump=hideous and I won't talk about THAT, but something really funny happened before I started jumping.
I was over at the high jumping area when I realized that I left the measuring tape back with my jacket. I am thinking..."Oy, this is going to start soon and I need to get my mark down." Just as I started to head over to grab it the announcer comes on and says, "Please turn to the East End of the field to listen to our National Anthem." I am thinking... "Great...is it really THAT bad to walk while they play the national anthem?" I started walking...no anthem...the loudspeaker was on and everyone was still...except me...but there was, as yet...no music. I continued walking...I past the goal post...went over the track...pulled myself up and slipped through the bars onto the grandstand...picked up the tape measure...and stood next to my friend, placing my hand on my heart in a patriotic manner. After a few seconds of more static the music to "and the home of the brave" finally came accross the sound system. Then the announcer was like, "Well...we're having technical difficulties, but I think we got the general idea." I laughed. Too classic. I was glad I hadn't waited back at the high jump pit.
Now...Easter:
I went to bed at 5:30ish after talking with a few subjects and writing commentary. At 8:45 my roommate Joanna called me to give me directions to her church so that I could go there...and then have Easter dinner with her family. I went, of course...it was Easter. Their church is on the South Side of Chicago and the congregation was mostly black. Totally different than my church in St. Paul suburbia... I liked it a lot. There was this hilarious little kid that was dancing to this quartet at the end of the worship service. Joanna's dad was the pastor...and I'm glad that he talked loudly or I would have fallen asleep. As it was, I really liked it a lot. I wish I could go back. And there was layer cake with strawberries in it which made the morning absolutely beautiful. I am salivating just remembering, oy.
Then I went back to Joanna's house where I was treated to a most delicious chicken dinner. I could not believe how good it was. I was just savoring the experience when Joanna and her sister, Elizabeth, started to argue about when God created the perfect kid. It was a variation of the joke in which God created Adam first...and decided he could do better. (one of those jokes that calls it like it is...) It
was pretty
funny...Joanna's comments were quality...and
Elizabeth was catching on...this is how the coversation went:
"God made Justin and he thought...I can do
better...then came JOANNA...and
he was like, PERFECTION, let's do it
again...oh...whoops, should have
stopped while I was ahead."--this statement was made by the Princess Joanna.
"No...(and then she went on to ramble a bit with the
general idea being that
the best was last...no real punch line)"--Elizabeth
I thought about letting this conversation die as they argued on...but as Empress...I never let an opportunity to slide away... "I think God was concentrating on another family." I commented softly to Joanna, her laughter causing me to repeat it more loudly for the enjoyment of all.
"She just knocked us all with a sentence..." Joanna commented, not as impressed as the rest of them...since she lives with me. Needless to say...it was a good meal.
