A girl just handed me an "SBS Problem Solving Process" card with a lightbulb on the front of it and I would like to go through this step by step process with you.

IDENTIFY PROBLEM OR OPPORTUNITY
Problem (not opportunity): In this hypothetical situation one has stayed up all night playing Rummy with her subject and then fell asleep, only to be woken up by her RA when there is a half and hour left to go before her flight leaves. Her RA magnanamously offered to drive her to the airport and after the quickest packing in the history of man they were tearing (crawling) down the highway (back roads to avoid traffic) and arrived three minutes before the flight left.
ANALYZE YOUR SITUATION
Analysis: with three minutes to go and a hugely long line the analysis is fairly simple. That flight is a missed opportunity and another one must be found. Further analysis revealed that the hypothetical person in question might be highly irritated by whoever ended up finally talking to her. There is a certain look in their eyes. Some might call it "the blinking cow" look.
GENERATE ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS
Alternate Solution: The cow mentions that this person was switched to another flight...she was never informed of this and immediately zeros in on the lack of service in this area. (Information may, possibly, reveal later on that a message was left with her 9 yr old brother in another state) All flights the person in question was switched to...were missed, but that is hardly the point now is it?
SELECT PREFERED SOLUTION
Solution of Choice: A no-charge 11:40 flight for the next day is mentioned...she takes it.
DEVELOP ACTION PLANS
Plan Development: She figures she will call up her roommate and stay with her until the next day. At which point she will take the flight to the annoying location of Cincinnati as planned.
IMPLEMENT & EVALUATE SOLUTION Implementation: Assuming that this girl gets a hold of her roommate afterwards...it could work out well. Evaluation of Solution: The Cincinnati thing sucks, but the lack of payment is excellent.

I hope that you have understood and appreciate this lesson in the "SBS Problem Solving Process"
