Chapter Six
“How do you know about her and Brian?!” Kaity asked shocked. How did Nick find out
that Emily liked Brian?
“Calm down. She called Brain here about five minutes before you got home. And
I wanted to know what’s going on with em.”
“She called him here.. why?”
“Something about a present for his mother. That would be the reason for him
being so happy when you asked earlier.”
“So he likes her?” Kaity asked.
“Yeah.. she likes him?”
“Um, definite yes.”
“Is she afraid to tell him she likes him?” Nick asked.
“Yup, same with him?”
“Yeah...jeez look at us all, me and you, Brian and Emily. When did all this
start?!” Nick said.
“I’m not exactly sure, but we gotta do something about the two of them. They are
perfect for each other.”
“Yeah, blind date?” Nick interjected.
“Sounds good to me, what about.. a blind double date with you and me?” Kaity
asked cautiously. Nick looked at her wide-eyed. “Well.. only if you want to...” she
began when he didn’t respond, “we don’t have to, it was just a suggestion-”
“No! That would be.. great! Really good idea-”
“KKKAAAIIITTYYYY!!! DDDIINNNNNNEEERRR!!!” Kaity’s mother
screamed.
“I should, uh,” Kaity said pointing towards her house.”
“Stay with me. Please.” Nick said as he grabbed her hand.
“I-”
“We’ll order pizza...?” Nick said, knowing that bribing Kaity with her favorite food
would convince her to stay.
“Ugh, you know how I am about pizza, I’m here! Just let me call my mom so she
doesn’t pop a lung paging me again.” She said walking over to Nick’s bedside stand
and picking up the phone. After calling her mother, Kaity turned back around to face
Nick who had come up behind her.
“Thanks, I didn’t want you to leave.” Nick said quietly.
“Yeah, I didn’t want to go either.”
“What do you want on your pizza? Double cheese as always?”
“You bet!” Kaity said as Nick called to order the food.
“It’ll be here in about twenty minutes.”
“When is everyone else going to be home?” Kaity asked. Nick’s parents and
brothers and sisters had gone for a day trip to Orlando.
“They’re not.”
“Say what?”
“They’re staying over in Orlando to go to Disney again tomorrow. Is that a
problem?”
“No-no, um, how long did you expect me to stay here?” Kaity asked him as her
mind began to wander about what exactly Nick was planning for the two of
them.
“Well I was hoping you’d stay for the night, like you always do.”
“You want me to spend the night with you, when you and I are
like...um...” Kaity's mind was spinning. Nick knew that she was a virgin, did he want that to change?!
“Kaity, we won’t be doing anything. You of all people know that I don't have much experience, I've only slept with one person, Mandy, and I know how you feel about that stuff.” Kaity took a deep breath as she
realized that she had nothing to worry about. This was Nick, the guy who knew more
about her than anyone else. He knew that she wasn’t ready, they had shared their
feelings about sex before.
“Yeah, I kind of forgot that you know me so well, I panicked.” She
admitted.
“Baby, you have nothing to worry about, we’re not ready for that step, especially
since this,” he said pointing to the both of them, “just started.”
“What exactly is this?” Kaity asked.
“ Well, as you probably have already noticed...my feelings for you have kind of
changed. Yes, you’re my best friend and always will be, but I want it to be... more. That
is, if you want it to be too. We could always just keep it the way it is-”
“But we both know that wouldn’t work, nothing would be the same.”
“So, it’s too late to turn back now, huh?”
Nick commented.
“I don’t want to turn back, why? Do you?” Kaity asked quickly.
“No! I just thought that you might want to stop what we started and have things
go back to being semi-normal.”
“Nope, I’m open for new things.” Kaity said smiling.
“Good.” Nick replied as he leaned in to kiss her again. Their lips met and he
wrapped his arms around her body. If felt so good to finally hold her. Kaity felt his lips
form a smile and she pulled away to look at him.
“What?” She asked amused.
“This feels so good. I wanted this so bad, and now I have it.” he said
simply.
“So, about this double date...” Kaity said changing the subject.
“What do you want to do? Movie? Dinner?” “Please say the movie” Nick prayed
silently. He knew that the movie would suit his wants much more than dinner. He
couldn’t spontaneously kiss Kaity in the middle of a meal, but the dark movie theater
was a perfect setting.
“You promised me that you would take me to see ‘Autumn In New York’ as soon
as I got out of school, so I say movie.”
“Aw, come on! That’s a chick flick, why can’t we go and see ‘Scary
Movie’?”
“Nickolas, we are trying to make it a romantic setting, don’t you think that a ‘chick
flick’ is more romantic than an action film?”
“Ugh, okay fine, but just ‘cause it’ll make you happy.” Nick said trying to sound
disappointed. Truth was that he would go to see any movie if he got to see it with Kaity.
He didn’t care if it was a chick flick, if he got bored, he could just stare at Kaity for the
rest of the movie.
“Good, that’s settled. When should we go? Friday night?” she asked.
“Yeah sounds good. I’ll call Bri later tonight. I may need a few days to convince
him to come, he’s totally hung up on Em.”
“Yeah. Gosh, I cannot wait to see what they say when they see that the other is
their date. Em is literally going to kill me for telling you about liking Brian. And I am sure
that Brian is gonna want to kill you too. Right?”
“Yup, he told me specifically not to mention anything to you, but I never did tell
him that I wouldn’t.”
“I wouldn’t worry about though,” Kaity said, “He’ll be fine once the date
starts.”
“Yup, cloud nine.” Nick finished. “So what do you want to do till the pizza gets
here?” He asked.
“Not sure...what do you want to do?” Kaity asked as Nick moved closer to her.
She knew exactly what he wanted to do, she was just teasing him. She let him pull her
towards him and lower his mouth to hers yet again. His kisses we nothing but gentle.
He didn’t press his lips to hers, he just brushed them against hers in a teasing manner.
Downstairs the doorbell rang, dropping Nick and Kaity back to reality as they pulled out
of the kiss. They smiled at each other before breaking apart and heading down stairs.
Nick paid the pizza guy and brought the food into the living room where Kaity was
looking through his video collection.
“Wanna watch a movie while we eat?” she asked. He nodded as she found the
tape she was looking for and put it into the VCR.
“What did you pick?” He asked as he brought a slice of pizza on a paper plate
over to Kaity on the couch.
“What do I always pick?” Kaity asked sarcastically as she looked up at Nick who
had just sat down next to her with his pizza. Ever since Kaity and Nick were kids they
had always watched the same movie together, Dirty Dancing. Neither one of them got
sick of it, and both of them could probably recite the entire movie from memory, but
they still enjoyed watching it. The two finished their pizza quickly and paused the movie
as they cleaned up their plates and cups and took the rest of the pizza out into the
kitchen before they headed back into the living room. Nick flipped the lights off on the
way into the room and he and Kaity made themselves comfortable on the couch again.
Kaity became enthralled in the movie, carefully watching ‘Baby’ learning to dance on
the screen. Nick was paying no attention to the movie at all, instead he was gazing
down at Kaity. He watched her slightly smile as the two characters on the TV danced
their hearts out. Nick dropped his arm from off the back of the couch, around Kaity’s
shoulders and she glanced up at him to smile. Nick smiled back and tried to watch the
movie, but he couldn’t stop looking back at the girl sitting next to him. He finally had
her. After years and years of pining over her and convincing himself that she could
never like him like he liked her, he finally had her. He had admitted his deep dark
feelings to her, and to his amazement, she shared in those feelings. It was like a dream
come true, he felt like a little kid on Christmas who had gotten the one toy he had been
begging his parents for ,for months. The smile was permanently plastered on his face
and he was sure that life couldn’t get any better than this.
