Chapter Five
Nick moved his lips lightly over Kaity’s before pulling away. He opened his eyes to see
Kaity staring at him with a startled look plastered on her face.
“Oh my god.” Kaity thought to herself. In her mind she had imagined what it would
be like to kiss Nick over and over again, but she had never thought that he would actually do
it. “What do I do now?” She continued her thought. “Do I kiss him back? Did he really mean
that? Or was that just a reflex??” She questioned herself.
“Kaity?” She heard Nick ask as he sat up and placed his feet on the floor. She met his
nervous gaze and automatically knew what she was going to do. In a matter of moments
what they had to begin with seemed like nothing compared to what they could have, a real
relationship, no childish flirting anymore, just something that was true. “Are you okay?” He
asked sounding worried. She nodded before taking a deep breath knowing what she was
going to do. She leaned in towards him again and her lips touched his again in a light kiss.
She manuver herself so she was kneeling on the floor facing Nick on the bed. His hands
automatically tangled in her hair and he pulled her body between his legs. Kaity found
herself wanting to pull his face to hers and kiss him with all she had. An intense feeling was
growing inside of Nick, kissing her was just like he had imagined, soft, sweet, and yet still
passionate. He pulled away to see if her reaction was anything like his. Kaity looked over at
him and brushed a strand of hair out of his eyes. The guy she was looking at had been her
best friend for years and nothing more than that. In twenty seconds what she thought was
going to be friendship for the rest of her life had transformed into this intense need and
want. He looked back at her, her eyes told him that she was in deep thought. Confusion took
over her eyes, followed by reminiscing, and finishing with realization.
“What are you thinking??” Nick asked Kaity as he brushed a few strands of hair
behind her ear. She looked up at him and their eyes met again. She just smiled at him before
replying.
“Just thinking about us.”
“And what exactly about us were you thinking??” Nick pressed on.
“How much I’ve wanted that to happen.”
“What this??” Nick asked sweetly before he pressed his lips to hers again.
“Yup, that would be it.” Kaity said as she pulled back from him enough to smile up at
him before she pulled his mouth to hers again. The feeling she felt was indescribable. She
had wanted to kiss Nick for so long and the fact that it was finally happening sprouted
emotions she didn’t know she had. Her heart was beating a million miles a minute and she
could feel her entire body betraying her. She was surrendering to him. Her body fell limp in
his arms as he deepened the kiss. Nick could feel her lean further into him and totally let
go.
“Is it just me...or do you feel that too?” He asked her, breaking away.
“What do you think?” She asked him sarcastically.
“I think you feel it.”
“Yeah.. I do.” she said smiling.
“You have no idea how long I have wanted to do that for.” he said twirling a strand
of her hair.
“Um.. actually I think I do.”
“And how long has it been?” He asked her, grinning.
“Well I’ve wanted to do that for...six years, four months and...26 days.”
“Really?!” he asked surprised. He had no idea that she felt that way about
him.
“No, that’s just a rough estimate.” She said poking him in the stomach. “What about
you?”
“Okay well...” he said as he brushed a strand of hair out of her eyes, “I’m 20 and
you’re 17...and you moved here eleven years ago.. do the math.. I was nine. I started to like
girls when I was ten so...20 minus 10 would be ten years. Ten years I have wanted to kiss
you.” he finished as he glided his fingers over her cheek.
“Ten years?! And you just got around to it now? What the hell was the matter with
you?” she asked him laughing.
“Low self esteem and NO courage.”
“Thank god you did something now, or you would have never gotten around to
it.”
“We have Brian to thank for that.”
“Why? What did he do?”
“Well I told him I liked you today and he encouraged me to make a move. That’s why
he left so soon.”
“You just told him that you liked me today? Jeez, they really weren’t lying when they
said guys don’t communicate well.”
“Hey! We communicate, it was just that...it felt weird liking you. Kind of like you were
off limits because you were my best friend.”
“I guess I felt strange liking you too. Maybe that’s why I didn’t tell Emily.”
“See! You didn’t tell your best friend either. And I thought girls did nothing but
communicate.”
“Yeah well...let’s just say that my best friend is gonna hear one hell of a story about
us when I tell her what happened.”
“Speaking of Emily, what’s up with her and Brian?”
