Chapter Eleven
“Kaity?” Kaity awoke to her name. The sun shining though her curtains.
“Hmm?” she mumbled as she buried herself under her covers. It was only 11 in the
morning..tons more time left to sleep.
“Kaity, you have a phone call.” Kaity’s mother, Mrs. McKenzie whispered holding onto
the portable phone.
“Who?” Kaity let out from under the covers.
“Nick. Do you want me to tell him you’ll call him back?”
“No!” Kaity shrieked as she flipped her covers off of her and reached for the phone,
nearly falling out of her bed.
“Don’t hurt yourself Hun, he’s right next door, if you miss his call it’s not going to
matter much.” Mrs. McKenzie said handing Kaity the phone. “He’s such a nice boy. So polite.
Why can’t you date someone like him?” she said retreating from her daughter’s room. Kaity
placed the phone against her ear to hear Nick laughing.
“You heard that?” Kaity asked giggling.
“Oh yeah, so I guess you haven’t told her yet?”
“Nope, I didn’t know how she’d react. Maybe I’ll clue her in now because you’re such a
nice, polite boy.” Kaity said laughing.
“Are you laughing at me?” Nick asked.
“Yes!” Kaity replied pulling the covers around her again.
“Funny, real funny. Maybe I just won’t take you on tour with me.” Nick said
simply.
“No, please, I’m sorry Nicky.”
“Nicky?” Nick asked surprised. “Now I’m really not taking you with me.” he finished as
Kaity cracked up again.
“Okay, okay. I’m sorry. Love you.” Kaity said seriously.
“Love you too.” Nick said smiling at the words. They were real. He meant those words
with his whole heart.
“Will you take me with you?” Kaity asked in a pleading voice.
“Of course I will.” Nick said.
“Good. I’d die without you.” Kaity said closing her eyes.
“Yeah, well we don’t want that.”
“Nope...then I couldn’t spend my life with you.” Kaity said without thinking.
“Spend your life with me? You really want that? That’s gonna be a while.” Nick said
smiling.
“Nick, I want to spend every minute of every day with you. I want to spend my life with
you.” Kaity said quietly. Nick was silent. “Nick?”
“Sorry, I just never imagined that you would ever speak those words to me.”
“You glad I have?”
“More than you know. I have dreamed of the day that you would say that.”
“Today is the day. So far it’s off to a good start...we gonna ask my parents about
tour?”
“If you’re ready to. It’s all up to you.” Nick said.
“I want to get it over with. Besides, you leave when? Two weeks? I need to go shopping
for new clothes if I can come with. I need to take my time packing.”
“What’s the use? Just pack the morning you leave.” Nick said. That was his strategy.
Pack what you need one hour before you need to be at the airport. “That way, you think of what
you need weeks before you pack it. You won’t forget anything.” Nick promised.
“Thanks for the offer, but I think I’ll stick to making a list and packing sparingly.” Kaity
said.
“Whatever. Don’t come crying to me when you realize you forgot something.”
“Nick, that makes no sense.”
“What doesn’t?”
“Nevermind. Topic change. When do you want to come over for ‘the talk’?”
“What time would be okay for you and your family?”
“It’s Saturday..so they’ll be lazy all day...you can come over now if you want
to.”
“Finally.” Nick said sighing. “I was waiting for you to say that.” Nick
finished.
“Have you? Why didn’t you just come over to wake me up?” Kaity asked
teasing.
“Because, Ms. Sarcastic, I thought that your parents would be a little weirded out if I
went up to your room to wake you up. I never do that. I always call.”
“Yeah, yeah. Come over now. Just to let you know..I’ll still be in bed when you get here,
so come up.”
“Can’t wait.” Nick said as he finished saying good-bye to her and hung up the phone to
get ready. He changed out of the clothes he wore to rehearsal and showered and dressed in
cargo shorts and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers jersey. Sliding his feet into a pair of sandals he
headed over to Kaity’s. He rang the doorbell and was greeted my Kaity’s mother. “Hi, Mrs.
McKenzie.” Nick said nodding his head. Mrs. McKenzie moved aside and let Nick in.
“She’s still sleeping.”
“She told me to go right up.” Nick said a little uncomfortable. Kaity’s mother nodded
and let him climb the stairs to her daughter’s bedroom
“Wake up.” Nick said upon entering Kaity’s room, finding her sound asleep amongst the
huge blanket covering her bed.
“No. Sleep.” Kaity mumbled as Nick crouched beside her bed.
“Kaity, we’re gonna tell your parents today.” Nick whispered moving his lips next to her
ear.
“Mmmm...come in here.” Kaity said pulling the covers up for Nick. He slid his sandals
off and climb under the covers with Kaity.
“What do you want to say to them?” Nick whispered as he curled against her
body.
“That we’re um...not friends anymore, and that you want me to go on tour with you and
the guys for two months. I think they’ll be pretty reasonable.” Kaity said yawning as she turned
over to rest her head on Nick’s chest.
“You think?” Nick questioned as he absentmindedly ran his hand through her brown
hair.
“I hope.” Kaity said burring her face in Nick’s neck.
“Me too.” Nick whispered as he turned to head to plant a kiss on Kaity’s forehead.
“What would your parents say if they walked in here right now?”
“Hmmm...probably, what the hell are you two doing?! Followed by...get the hell out of
my daughter’s bed.” Kaity said giggling against Nick’s skin. He squirmed a bit when her warm
breath hit his neck. “Oh, you like that?” Kaity asked bravely darting her tongue out to meet the
soft skin at the base of Nick’s neck.
“Oh my God.” Nick whispered as he tangled his fingers in Kaity’s hair.
“You really like that.” Kaity whispered as she moved her mouth towards Nick’s chin. She
kissed his skin as she moved, listening to Nick’s soft moans. She smiled as she raised her head to
look into Nick’s eyes.
“It’s amazing what you do to me.” Nick said smiling at her as he placed his hand lightly
on the back of her neck, pulling her mouth down on his. He kissed her deeply as she wove her
hands in his hair. The two were interrupted when the phone rang.
“Damn.” Kaity muttered when her mother called her name from downstairs.
“Got it!” she yelled back, seeing Nick wince from her piercing scream. “Sorry.” she
apologized, kissing him lightly. She reached for her phone and brought it to her ear. “Hello.”
she said.
“I love you!” Emily chirped.
“Love you too.” Kaity said smiling as Nick looked at her strangely. “Emily.” she
mouthed to him. He nodded his head and raised himself so he could kiss her neck. She closed her
eyes as she continued her conversation.
“Kait...I cannot thank you enough! Ahh!! He brought me home and we sat on the front
steps talking. He kissed me. Ohmigod, he kissed me!”
“Slow down. So he kissed you. Describe.” Kaity said as Nick kissed to her ear.
“It was the greatest moment of my entire life. He was like ‘can I go for it’ and I was
speechless. He just, ugh, kissed me!”
“That is so sweet.” Kaity said as Nick’s hand’s made their way to her back, running them
up and down her spine.
“Yeah..he’s supposed to call me today..after nine, but he hasn’t yet.” Emily said sadly.
“Em..he will call you. Trust me.” Kaity said glancing down at Nick who was nodding his
head up at her.
“Are you sure?” Emily asked.
“I am positive. Nick is too.” Kaity answered her reassuringly.
“Nick? Where is he?”
“Underneath me?” Kaity answered giggling.
“Kaity! You didn’t!?!?”
“Um..EW!” Kaity said laughing. “No Em. He just came over.”
“Thank God. So he thinks Bri will call me?”
“Emily, the boy is crazy about you. He will call you.”
“Okay, okay. Thank you again though. I owe you big time for this. I mean...you made my
dreams come true.”
“What are best friends for?” Kaity asked.
“For falling in love with.” Nick said smiling.
“Aww. I heard that.” Emily said.
“Yeah, he’s a sweet talker.”
“Am not!” Nick said poking her side. She squirmed against him before kissing him
again.
“Hello? Are you still there? Ew! I’m hearing suction.” Emily said laughing.
“Stop it.” Kaity said pulling away from Nick. He headed back to her neck.
“Who ya talking to?” Emily asked.
“You and you.” Kaity said pointing at Nick. He pulled his mouth from her skin and
shrugged his shoulders at her smiling. Kaity sat up, straddling Nick as she turned her attention
to Emily. “Okay...so did he mention another date?”
“Yeah, he and I are going to hang out today I think. He asked me if I wanted to come
over and watch a movie.”
“Go. Have fun. He’s a sweetie.”
“You’re telling me.” Emily sighed.
“Yeah.” Kaity said as she heard a distant ring of a telephone. “Is that at your house?”
she asked Emily.
“Is what at my house?”
“Nothing.” Kaity said looking down at Nick. He smiled weakly as he moved his hand
under her leg to get his cell phone from his pocket.
“Hello?” he asked after pressing the answer button. “Hey Bri.” he said
smiling.
“Is he talking to Brian?” Emily asked after hearing Nick say his name.
“Yeah, I’ll call you back.” Kaity said to Emily as she listened to Nick’s side of the
conversation.
“Okay..tell me what he says, K?”
“Sure. See ya.” Kaity said hanging up her phone. She moved off of Nick and laid next to
him as he continued to talk to Brain.
“Nick...last night. Thanks.” Brian said seriously.
“No problem, bro. I told you that I would find a way for you to get Em.”
“Yeah, you did. It means a lot to me Nick.”
“No prob. So how did it go?”
“Great.” Brian whispered. “She’s amazing.”
“So what happened when you took her home? Anything?” Nick asked looking down at
Kaity.
“Nick, man, I kissed her. It was great. She was so shy but got into it. Man, she has the
best lips.” Brian said in awe.
“The best lips huh?” Nick asked. Kaity propped herself up on her elbow to look down at
Nick. “Are you gonna call her?”
“Hell yeah! She feels the same Frack. I am definitely calling. I just don’t want to seem
obvious.”
“Trust me, man. Seem obvious.” Nick said laughing.
“Yeah? I think I’m gonna call her now. She said sometime after 9 and it’s
noon?”
“Why the hell are you talking to me??” Nick asked smiling at Kaity.
“Point taken...see ya.”
“Yeah, yeah. Talk to you later, bro.” Nick said hanging up his phone.
“We have succeeded.” Kaity said.
“Damn straight.” Nick said laughing before kissing her again. “Now...we tell your
parents.”
