Chapter 12
Elizabeth jumped when she saw Lucky at her window. She couldn't believe that he'd taken the chance of coming to her house. She rose from her bed quickly and carefully opened it, not wanting to make any noise.
"Are you crazy? What are you doing here, Lucky?! You know that we're going to get caught don't you?....Lucky?! Luc -"
Before she could even finish his name, Lucky pulled her into a fierce kiss, silencing her completely. She didn't know if it was because he wanted to or if it was simply a way of shutting her up. But at that moment, she didn't really care. She was speechless when he finally pulled away.
"That's better," Lucky said, smiling at her, while making his way into her room.
Elizabeth stood by the window, and folded her arms over her chest once she recovered from her shock. She glared at Lucky, giving him her best, 'you really know you shouldn't be here' face.
"I know", he said, reading her thoughts. "And I wasn't going to come but I just happened to be walking by and I saw your parents take off in their car...so I figured it was safe," he said, content with himself.
"That's great Lucky, so maybe I shouldn't tell you that all they were doing was renting a movie for all of us to watch tonight and they'll probably be back in about 10 minutes?"
Lucky licked his lips and ran a hand through his hair. He turned to Elizabeth and shrugged his shoulders, "Oops......Should I go?".
Elizabeth just shook her head at him, smiling. Like she'd ever send him away. "Well, since you did make it here unnoticed, what are the things you wanted to discuss?"
Lucky slowly made his way over to her and Elizabeth swallowed dryly. She knew exactly what that look meant. A tingle ran up her spine as he placed his hands lightly on her waist. He lowered his head near her ear and whispered. "Well, right this second, I don't really want to discuss anything," he said, before making an attempt at her lips.
Elizabeth felt dizzy, something that happened whenever Lucky came within 3 feet of her. But she had to hold it together. She knew damn well that they had to discuss their plans for leaving and she also had to tell him about Emily. She couldn't believe she was about to stop what could potentially be a pretty good make-out session. By that stare he was giving her she knew it would be. She'd definitely kick herself for this later.
"Ok, hold on," she reluctantly said as she placed a finger over his lips. Lucky looked at her questioningly. "I'm sorry Lucky, but if we start that now...we'll get no talking done at all."
Lucky smiled, knowing she was right. Lately, he couldn't be in the same room with her without wanting to kiss her or touch her. He seriously needed to get some control of his hormones.
"Okay," he answered, putting some distance between them. "Your right......You want to go first?" Lucky asked figuring there was probably something on Elizabeth's mind. He wanted to answer all of the questions she had about going away. He wanted to make sure he eased her fears in any way he could. He looked at her, watching her gather her thoughts. She looked almost.......worried. Almost....guilty.
He frowned and tilted his head slightly as she bit her lip. "Who did you tell?" He asked without her having said a word.
'Ugh!..How does he do that all the time?!' she thought to herself.
"Ummm.....Emily," she said almost timidly. When he didn't respond, she continued. "I'm sorry Lucky. It's just...she was devastated at our break up, and I.....I'm sorry, but I couldn't hold it together ......I screwed up ok?........... But I SWEAR to you Lucky, she won't say a word! She promised me," she finished, biting her lip while awaiting his response.
Lucky finally held up his hand and waved it at her. "It's ok!...It's ok, Elizabeth. Don't worry about it," he smiled then, nearly laughing. "I believe you....besides....um, I almost told Nikolas today..." His voice trailed off as she smiled. He continued as she shook her head. "So, it seems neither one of us are starting off very good at this."
"No, that's not true Lucky. It's just...she was so concerned, you know? And the thing is Lucky, I couldn't lie to her! And then I got to thinking......... This could be a good thing. She could really help us. And Nikolas too. Neither one of them would try and stop us from leaving, so maybe you should think about really telling Nik....what do you think?"
"I don't know Elizabeth....I mean, how do you think they can help us?" He asked, sitting down upon her bed.
"Well," she began as she walked over and placed her hands around his shoulders. "They could help us see each other....You know...they can act as our decoy. I can say I'm going to go out with Emily or Nikolas, and then conveniently forget how to get to the Quartermaine mansion and somehow end up at your place," she said innocently, hugging his shoulders a bit tighter.
Lucky laughed, placing his hands on her forearms. "Yeah, I guess that could work.... ...Ok, I'll think about it..........Oh! But before I forget, I have something for you," he said, letting her go and reaching for his bag.
Elizabeth sat next to him on the bed and watched Lucky pull a wallet out of his backpack. Her eyes widened as he opened it to display about 25 different ID's.
She laughed out loud. "Oooh my goodness Lucky!... So what is my name going to be?", she said nearly bouncing up and down in her excitement
Lucky covered his mouth. She was such a little girl sometimes that he just had to laugh her."Well, all of them actually," he said, regaining his composure. "It'll be harder to trace if we're constantly using different names".
"Oh! Okay, let me see!" Elizabeth took them eagerly, curious to know what her new identities would be. Almost as quickly as the smile came, it faded into a deadly serious glance that she shot right at Lucky.
"What?" he asked innocently.
She flipped through them quickly. Saying each name as it passed her by."Beatrice? Ursula? Bertha? Milliscent? Darla? COOKIE?! You really expect me to call myself Cookie?????!!!", she asked, her voice rising by the second.
Lucky simply shrugged. "Hmm, I kind of liked that last one actually," he said, reaching out to take it from her. He laughed as Elizabeth began rummaging through his bag. "What are you doing?"
"I'm looking for the real ID's", she said seriously, looking up at him. "You know, the Melissa's, the Heather's, the Samantha's. You know, the NORMAL ones."
Lucky could only smile. "Elizabeth look all you want, you aren't going to find any other ones in there".
Elizabeth gave him a menacing glare.
"Come on Elizabeth, why be boring and conventional huh? I thought we decided a long time ago that we weren't normal, so why pick normal names?"
Her eyebrows rose. She was NOT satisfied.
"Ok, ok......if you want, I'll give you one that's a little closer to home for you".
Elizabeth reached for the card that Lucky pulled out of his pocket. "Ooooh..that's cute Lucky. Really cute."
"What..you don't like it...........Imogene?" he asked, ever so innocently.
"You know something, I'm really not liking you right now," she said, the lightness in her voice betraying the stern look on her face.
"Oh come on Imogene, don't be like that," he said, unsuccessfully trying to control his laughter. He stood up slowly, knowing what was coming.
"Ok, that's it," Elizabeth said as she took off after Lucky, who was already half way around the room. After about 3 times over and around the bed, she finally tackled him, successfully pinning him down atop her comforter.
She raised her eyebrows and let out a huge grin. "You surrender?" Lucky simply shook his head at her. He surprised her then, grabbing her wrists and flipping her on her back, thereby reversing their positions.
He stared down at her, lowering his voice. "Never Elizabeth.........Never."
Elizabeth giggled as his lips got closer and closer. "I think someone has been watching FAR too much wrestling."
He licked his lips, as they hovered less than inches from hers. "I think someone is doing FAR too much talking."
She laughed again lightly, as his beautiful lips finally descended upon hers, the laugh quickly turning into something else. Something resembling a moan as his lips moved softly, tenderly over hers. God, how many days had it been since they'd gotten more than ten minutes together? 'Only a couple,' a voice in her head said. 'So what..it's been too long,' said another.
His hands moved up the sides of her face and into her hair, relishing the softness of her. Her skin, her silken strands. His kisses became more urgent, needy. God, how long had it been since he'd touched her? 'Yesterday...at Kelly's,' a voice said. 'Shut-up,' said another.
Elizabeth's eyes searched his for a moment as he pulled back slightly. Why wasn't he kissing her anymore? He seemed as if he were in a trance. His eyes were almost glassy as he lightly trailed his thumb over her swollen lips. A moment later he was kissing her again. Whatever he had been thinking, gone.
'Hold it together,' he thought as her hands roamed over his back, clutching the fabric in her small fingers. 'Don't get too excited here....you know this has to end in like two minutes....five minutes.....ten more minutes...'
"Lizzie honey we got your favorite!"
Lucky froze instantaneously at the voice. The voice that was close. Very close. He shot up from the bed, smoothing out his shirt. Elizabeth, sat motionless for a second, but sprang into action the moment he did. "Oh my God...Lucky...you gotta get out of here...now!"
"yeah think I got that." Lucky whispered, hurriedly as he frantically searched for his shoes. When the hell had he taken off his shoes? His heart beat loudly in his ears.
Elizabeth ran towards the window throwing it open quickly, as a whoosh of crisp night air came in. Her eyes the size of saucers as she looked towards the door. The voices were floating there way up the stairs now. "Just a minute Mom! Dad!........Lucky, hurry," she said through gritted teeth.
He stumbled slightly as the back of one of his shoes hung loosely. He tugged at it quickly and jogged his way over to the window. She moved aside instantly as he put one leg through the opening then the other. She looked towards the door quickly. "Hold on you guys!" She yelled. She prayed silently under her breath.
Elizabeth turned back towards Lucky then, only to find him staring at her. "I love you," he said quickly, taking her face in his hands as he kissed her. He pressed his lips sweetly to hers for one last time. Once again, their time ending far too soon.
"I love you too," she whispered softly, as he disappeared. She rapidly shut the window.
"Hey sweetheart, what's the hold up?", Jeff said as he knocked on his daughters bedroom door.
Elizabeth took a deep breath and looked down, running a hand over her wrinkled blouse. "Nothing daddy...come on in."
Jeff made his way in the door and smiled at his youngest daughter. "You coming?"
Elizabeth made a face as if to smile when she suddenly spotted Lucky's jacket sitting on the back of her desk chair. 'Oh God, Oh God, Oh God,' was all that kept repeating in head. 'Please Dad, do NOT turn around!' She seriously had to think fast.
"Yeah Dad, I was just on my way down, let's go," she said rather quickly as she ushered her father towards the door.
"Ok, ok I can take a hint", Jeff said laughing. "Your not hiding anything in here are you?", he said with amusement in his voice.
Elizabeth tensed up right away. "No, of course not Dad. Why would you say that?" she said, almost too nervously. How can she not be tense though? The truth was that not more than 3 minutes ago, she WAS hiding someone in her room, and not only that, but they were making out on her bed! The thought of that brought a blush to Elizabeth's cheeks. She quickly shook the image off and looked at her father who was looking at her with a confused look on his face. Realizing that she probably sounded extremely guilty, she covered.
She looked down and sighed. "I'm sorry Dad....it's just that....well I know these past few days haven't been easy for any of us.....and I guess I'm just a little paranoid because....well..uh......." she said trailing off.
'think Elizabeth think'
"and...well........I just love you guys so much, I don't want to give you any reason not to trust me," she finished, adding a little extra sweetness to her voice.
Jeff just smiled at her, so happy with the way things were turning out. He finally felt like he had his daughter back. Elizabeth was away from that......boy...... and she was getting ready to go back to Colorado. He pulled Elizabeth close to him, and kissed the top of her head. "We love you too honey."
Elizabeth plastered a small smile on her face. At that moment she actually felt a little guilty for having to lie to her parents. If only they could see how wonderful the art school in New York was. How wonderful Lucky......'Forget it,' she thought.'You've already tried......they've left you no other choice now.'
"Ok," she said then, pulling from his embrace. She moved so that she stood directly in between Lucky's jacket and her father, blocking it from his view. "Give me two minutes to change into my PJ's and I'll be right down, ok?"
"Ok...hon," Jeff said quickly then walked out of her room.
Elizabeth watched the door shut behind him and sprung to the chair, whipping Lucky's jacket off of it and running quickly to her window. She lifted it and called out into the night. Her voice in a raised whisper. It was way too cold out there for him to be without it. "Lucky?!.....Lucky?!"
"Right here," he said, appearing from the side of her window. He rubbed his arms up and down to fight the chill in the air.
"That was close," she said quietly. She grinned a little, the humor of the situation just beginning to dawn on her.
Lucky, on the other hand, did not look amused at all. He licked his lips as he slowly pulled his jacket on. "Yeah....a little too close..................Elizabeth, I think maybe we need to - "
"Don't even say it Lucky," Elizabeth said, a scowl lacing her forehead. For once she had read HIS mind. "It's bad enough that I have to PRETEND to be broken up with you...I'm not going to stop seeing you all together."
"That's not what I had in mind," Lucky said, shaking his head. "I just think that we need to try and be more discreet and if that means that we have to not see each other for a while........." His voice trailed off when he saw her look down. Her fingers nervously tapping at the windowsill. He placed his hands over hers, stilling there movements. "Elizabeth......I can't lose you."
She looked up and into his eyes, as his voice wavered slightly. "I can't lose you either."
"Good," he said, smiling weakly. His expression turned serious with his next words. "Because...if staying away from you for now means that I can be with you in the long run........sweetie, I'm willing to do that."
Elizabeth remained silent, her only response a deep sigh. He spoke after only a moment. "I love you."
"I love you too," she mumbled. Upset with the new "plan," but more upset that it made sense. "So when will I see you again?" She asked, her voice tiny as she looked at his hands covering hers.
He shook his head slowly. Not knowing how to answer. "I don't know........but I'll be in contact...I promise."
Elizabeth bit her trembling lip and nodded sadly as he took her face in his hands and pressed a quick kiss to her forehead. He was gone not a second later.

Outside, Lucky stood on the corner staring up at her window as worry set in. He realized that he couldn't take any more chances like that. They couldn't afford taking the risk of getting caught. That was too close. He hated doing this, but he had to try and stay away from Elizabeth for now no matter how much she objected.
He tugged his jacket tighter around himself as he began to walk down the street. He needed a way to be able to get messages to her. Communicate with her. Do the things he wouldn't be able to do in person. He thought for a second and knew who he had to go to. His feet couldn't get him there fast enough.
