AUTHORS NOTE: For storyline purposes I have forwarded the
story along a bit.
Lucky and Elizabeth have now been married almost 3 months and
both of them are
going off to college. Never fear...I know this is usually a bad
sign for a
fic...the author races through and then runs out of ideas...DON'T
WORRY...I've
got plenty of ideas, they just all seem to involve them being in
school...so
without further ado...
Chapter 13
Let the phone ring
Let's go back to sleep
Let the world spin outside our door
You're the only one that I wanna see
Tell your boss you're sick
Hurry...get back in I'm getting cold
Get over here and warm my hands up boy
It's you they love to hold....
Come on darlin' let's go back to bed
Put the phone machine on hold
Leave the dishes in the sink
Do not answer the door
It's you that I adore.
I'm gonna give you some more...
Let the phone ring
Let's go back to sleep.
The sun filetered through the blinds as the young coupld slept
soundly. It was
the last day of summer vacation, and the last day that Lucky and
Liz would be
able to wake up in each others arms on a daily basis. Bobbie had
taken pity on
the young newlyweds and offered to fun Kelly's for the day, so
that they could
spend the day just being together. Tonight Liz would be moving
into her dorm
room at the New York Art Academy and Lucky would be getting ready
for his
first day at PCU.
"You awake?" asked Lucky placing a soft kiss on the tip
of Liz's nose. He had
seen her eyelids flutter in the sunlight, but they never opened.
She was
playing possum, trying to prolong the inevitable.
"No." Liz replyed, cuddling up closer to Luckys chest.
Lucky laughed as he rubbed his wife's back. "Baby you gotta
get up, the sooner
you wake up, the more time we'll have to hang out today."
Liz reluctantly opened her eyes. She had no desire for the day to
begin. "Do
you know that this is my favorite time of the day?" She
asked looking up into
Lucky's eyes. They almost seemed transparent as the sun reflected
it's light
against them. She caressed the strong arms that enveloped her.
"Morning?" He asked surprisedly. "You used to hate
mornings."
"Well, that was before I got to wake up in your arms
everyday."
Lucky bent down and kissed her tenderly, letting his forehead
rest against
hers afterwards. He could feel her eyelashes dance against his
skin as she
blinked back the beginning tears. He kissed her again, a bit more
forcefully
this time and pulled her closer to him.
"Baby, I'm gonna come pick you up this Friday night, and on
Saturday morning
we're gonna be able to wake up just like this ok?"
"Ok," she said, sniffling.
"Elizabeth please don't cry," he said kissing her
forehead, his own lips
beginning to tremble. "Friday will be here before you know
it," he continued,
trying to convince himself as well.
Before they had gotton married they had discussed how hard the
arrangement
would be; his running Kelly's and going to PCU, while Liz was 2
hours away at
the New York Art Academy five days a week. But, somehow they
hadn't realized
it would be THIS hard. They both felt as if their hearts were
being torn out.
Lucky could only imagine how difficult it would be leaving Liz at
her dorm
room that night. He dreaded the mere thought of it. But they had
to do this.
They had made it through so much...they would make it through
this too.
Feedback is always appreciated...sorry so short you guys the next
one will be
longer.

Chapter 14
"Cool, " said Lucky as he pulled up in front of the
residence hall at the New
York Art Academy. The dorms here were nothing like your typical
college
campuses. No bricks, no clinging ivy. It was totally modern,
complete with
various levels of sloping rooves and huge skylights.
"Art deco," said Liz flattly, leaning forward in her
seat.
Lucky looked at her and chuckled. She still amazed him with how
much she knew
about art. On the entire ride there they had talked about
everything, and
nothing. They had tryed desperately to avoid the most obvious
topic.
"Well I guess you're home," Lucky laughed nervously.
Liz snapped her head up in his direction. "Don't call it
that Lucky."
"I know," said Lucky putting his head down and
regretting his failed attempt
at levity. "I just....I was trying to keep things light, you
know?...Elizabeth, baby you're not going to prison...you're gonna
love it
here. This is the opportunity of a lifetime."
"I know," responded Liz woefully. "But just don't
call it home okay? My home
is with you."
"Ok," he said kissing her on her forehead. He quickly
tried to change the
subject, knowing that if they didn't get out of the car that
instant, they may
very well drive back to Port Charles and say "to hell"
with the Art Academy.
He couldn't let that happen. This was Elizabeth's future.
"What do you say we
go meet your roomate?" Liz nodded.
Lucky got out of the car and walked over to open Liz's door. They
then
proceeded to get all of her boxes out of the trunk and headed
towards her
room. It was at the end of a long, spacious corridor. As Liz and
Lucky walked
they heard the whir of the air conditioner. The carpet was pale
gray and the
walls were eggshell. Huge paintings hung from almost every wall.
If Liz hadn't
been in such a foul mood she may have even noticed the beautiful
artwork. But
instead, she walked only looking straight ahead with key in hand.
"Here it is," she sighed pushing the key in the
lock. Lucky shifted the boxes
in his arms behind her. Before Liz could turn the door knob, the
door was
yanked open.
"Hey!"cried the bright eyed girl. "You must be my
new roomie!"
Liz was taken aback by the girl's enthusiam. "Um, um yeah I
guess..." Liz
stammered.
"Well come on in!" said the girl, ushering both Liz and
Lucky through the
door. "I'm Reese, and this is Kyle," she said pointing
to the sandy blonde
haired guy sitting on one of the small beds. "And ya'll
would be?" Reese
asked, extending a hand to Liz and then Lucky.
"Liz," she responded smiling and shaking Reese's hand.
"And this is my husband
Lucky."
Reese jutted her chin out in surprise. "Oh, she said
laughing. "Wow. Married
huh?...cool."
Liz could tell she was going to like Reese already. Her
enthusiasm was
contagious and that was exactly what she needed right now. Liz
guessed that
Reese was about 21 and that was good too. She had requested a
roomate that had
been at the Academy for awhile, just so that person could show
her the ropes.
She also guessed that she was from the south, her accent wasn't
thick, but it
had definitely shown itself on that "ya'll."
Reese suddenly turned to a silent Kyle. "Kyle would you stop
being so rude,
and help Lucky out with those boxes," she said pointing to
the boxes that
lined the hall. Everyone laughed at Reese's sudden outburst.
"Oh, that's no problem," said Lucky walking out to do
the job himself.
"Nah man, let me help you," said Kyle following Lucky
out into the hall. Lucky
thought that it was cool of him to help. He had been a little
unnerved to see
some guy all sprawled out in Liz's room when he first arrived,
but he was
obviously Reese's boyfriend and he seemed nice enough.
"So what do you think of the place?" asked Reese when
she and Liz were left
alone. "A little overwhelming huh?" she continued,
almost reading Liz's exact
thoughts. She had felt the same way when she first got there 2
years ago.
"Yeah." replyed Liz.
"Well one thing that is NOT overwhelming is this room. I've
been in small dorm
rooms in my life, but this one takes the cake."
Liz laughed. Reese was so animated when she talked. She used her
hands a lot,
and her waist length brown hair swung from side to side with
every word. "It's
ok, I'm used to it," Liz said thinking of her small room
above Kelly's with
Lucky.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lucky and Liz had been standing in the grass, kissing under the
moonlight for
at least 10 minutes, when they both came up for air.
"Well Reese seems nice," said Lucky. The four of them
had chatted for an hour
before Liz and Lucky had excused themselves, so that they could
share some
final, private moments before seperating for 5 days.
"Yeah," said Liz not wanting to let go of Lucky. She
burried her head in his
chest. She wanted to live in this moment forever. "I like
her."
Silence ensued. The only things heard were the crikets chirping
and the sounds
of their own breathing. Off in the distance, the clock tower in
the center of
campus struck 10 times.
"It's 10 o'clock, " said Liz, sighing. "You better
get going. You won't be
home before midnight and you've got an early morning too...are
you excited?"
asked Liz trying to shift the focus off of her.
"PCU, here I come...of course I'm excited, " he lied.
The thought of going to
school without his angel was anything BUT exciting.
Once again there was silence. Liz decided that it was now or
never. "Ok," she
said pulling out of his embrace. "Get outta here!" she
joked, laughing.
But she wasn't fooling anyone. Lucky heard her voice crack. He
began walking
towards her, wanting to wrap her in his arms.
"No," she said, extending her hand out in front of her.
She bit her lip.
"Please Lucky don't," she continued, backing up.
"It'll only make this
harder."
Lucky stopped in his tracks. "Ok," he said wiping
feverishly at the tears on
his face with the his palms. "Goodb-"
"No! Don't say it...Just say goodnight," Liz said, her
tears now flickering in
the moonlight.
Lucky swallowed. "Goodnight."
Liz watched him as he turned away and walked towards his car. She
wanted so
badly to run after him and throw her arms around him. "It's
just 5 days," she
wispered, chiding herself for being so silly. It would be the
first of many
nights away from her husband.
