Behind the persona of Ottawa`s top drag queen/ celebrity female Impersonator/ non gender specific Illusionist, is Michael, a Scorpio, who found the Stage his second home in his early years.
Born in Southern Germany he came to Canada with his Mom, at first he involved himself in Stagelife. From Plays to Lead Singer in"Jesus Christ Superstar" to the sounds of Andrew Lloyd Webber.
In 1995 he went to Halifax to work, where he began his drag career, on a dare. But once he got into a dress and back on stage, he could not get out. Michael came to visit his Mom in the Ottawa Valley in December of 1998, went to Ottawa to visit some friends and called his Mom to tell her he is moving to Ottawa and has never looked back. " I saw an opportunity to perform again and make people forget about their problems for a few minutes." Catching a Dixie Landers show is to witness a Vegas- styled impersonation of Terri Clark, Liza Minelli and Barbara Streisand among others. However Dixie`s trademark performance is of the "Divine Miss M - Bette Midler - to whom Dixie bears an uncanny resemblence. The drag queen scene is vibrant and burgeoning and Miss Dixie Landers remains at the helm of the Ottawa scene. When you look at all the News Releases, you will see the variety of places Michael/Dixie has performed. From Stage to Television, from a performance in a Bar to the National Center of Arts. Dixie was crowned "Miss Gay Pride Ottawa 1999/2000" where she helped raise the standards of Miss Gay Pride, because of her extensive charity work, she recently accepted a Capital Xtra Heroes of 2000 Award on behalf of the drag community. Miss Dixie Landers has made her way to the NAC Stage as the opening act for the "Stage for Aids 2000". In July Miss Dixie Landers was hosting the "Miss Gay Pride 2000/2001" competition, it was a tough call for the Judges, Miss Dixie was not competing for the title.
