Miaka becomes Suzaku no Miko after being transported by a red light into Kounan Country in "the Universe of the Four Gods" book. She immediatly falls in love with Tamahome, who saved her and Yui from two slave traders... and then again from a street gang... and then again from the emperor's guards... And even when Tamahome tells her he doesn't feel the same way, her feelings don't change. Tamahome eventually comes around anyway.
Miaka is extremely clumsy and is constantly tripping over this and that... or nothing at all, but she isn't necessisarily ~stupid~ and has many redeeming traits such as her love and loyalty to Tamahome and her friends, her easy-going-ness (i don't care if it's not a word), and cheerfulness. She does have a problem keeping her clothes on, but more the fault of the animators i suppose.
Her dedication to Yui is especially admirable as, after she Yui entered the book, Yui was convinced Miaka had forgotton about her. Although Miaka was wandering around looking for Yui, she had changed out of her school uniform, her link to Yui, and was thus not aware of the terrible things happeneing to Yui in Kutou. Yui has since then been very cold to Miaka and not accepting Miaka's multiple apologies. Miaka keeps apologizing, and hoping that their friendship with perservere.
