Chapter 3

If you want to get it done babe
You gotta get the one
The one who's got it goin' on
If you wanna make it last
Gotta know just who to ask
Baby's got to be the best
And that's me

If You Want It to Be Good Girl (Get Yourself A Bad Boy)

(after a few weeks)

I was supposed to be housesitting for my grandparents one weekend, and Nick and the guys were over in town shooting a video. Since I haven't seen him for a while, I invited him and the guys over to the house for a couple of days.

"That would be perfect," he told me with a smile.

I told him I would be taking Sam with me.

"Hmmm, I did need to set somebody up with Kevin..." he replied.

"Um, I'm not sure if that's such a great idea."

"What do you mean?" he was puzzled.

"Well, let's just say that they've met and it was kinda awkward. Oh well, I'll just bring her anyways, she's a lot of fun."

Then it was settled. We rented a big van to accomodate a lot of people. Brian and his girlfriend Kara, a model, were there. Kara was a sight to behold. She had a creamy mocha complexion and towered over Brian by about 4 inches, but they seemed happy together.

Of course, Nick and Kevin and Sam. AJ was there by himself, his girlfriend Marie cancelled at the last minute since she had a gig they couldn't postpone. I could tell Sam was getting some ideas, so I elbowed her and gave her a warning look.

Howie was also there with his girl, Angela. She was really pretty, with big brown eyes and shoulder-length blond hair. I can't help but feel a little jealous. I stopped myself, saying to myself that I was with a guy thousands of girls were dying to go out with.

We had some time to talk, since we sat next to each other on the drive. We were about the same age. She was a freshman in college. I heard that she used to be part of the boys dancers. She and Howie met while they were on tour and fell in love. After the tour, she decided to concentrate on school for a while. She was so sweet and nice that I can't help but like her.

"We're here!", squealed Samantha as our grandparents' two story condo came into view. I haven't been to the house in months. We pulled out our luggage out of the van. There were only three rooms, so that made the arrangements a little tight.

"Hmm, lemme see" said Kevin, thinking aloud, "I guess Sam and Cathy can share and room, and so can Kara and Angela. So that leaves one room for us guys."

The five of them looked at each other.

"Well, that room has a king-size bed and a couch, so I guess three people can share it." I informed them.

"Then, it's mine" said AJ and headed upstairs.

"Wait, that's not fair. How about we draw straws?", proposed Kevin

The guys nodded their agreement. AJ sighed and joined in.

Brian drew long straws and headed upstairs.

Nick was up next. "Whew, a long one, guess I get the room".

Howie drew a short straw and was disappointed, "Oh well, I guess I'm down here"

"Oh, what a little gentleman", cooed Angela.

AJ and Kevin were left. Kevin was about to draw his straw when AJ stopped him.

"Hey, you were the ones who put them in there, you know which one's long. I get to draw" and he plucked one, which unfortunately for him was short.

"Ohhh, man, "he grumbled as Kevin cheerfully went to his room.

All the bedrooms were upstairs. The condo had a great view of the mountains. It was a little chilly at night, since we were so high up.

Downstairs, after almost an hour of bickering, we finally decided what to do for the next few days. "Great, coz I'm really sleepy" announced Angela as she stood up to head to her room. Kara gave Brian a peck on the cheek and said, "Well, I guess I better head up too."

"C'mon, Bri, we could catch the Lakers' game before we go to sleep" invited Nick.

"Sure" responded Brian and they were gone too.

"Sam, you coming?" I asked.

"A little later, I wanna chat with AJ for a while."

"Ok" I looked over and saw AJ stretching out his blankets on the couch. I walked up the stairs and into my bedroom.

Sunlight was streaming into the window. I yawned and stretched my arms out. It was morning already, and I better hurry before a line starts forming for the bathroom.

Sam was fast asleep on the sofa. Her body was covered with a blanket and she was snoring. All my life, I don't remember her snoring before, but I put it aside and walked over to her to wake her.

"Sam" I mumbled while nudging her gently. She didn't budge.

"Sam!" I said a little louder and poked her shoulder harder. She turned around and I realized that it wasn't her at all. I was staring into Howie's big brown eyes.
