Michael is sitting at a table, interviewing Hal Carver, one of the members of the 509th bomb group. Neither are into the whole interview thing. There is a flyer on the table. Michael takes a look at it. It's of Hal and a B-17G. Michael asks why Hal left Roswell in 47'. Hal tells Michael about the aliens.
Flash back to young Carver (portrayed by Michael) at work on a military base. He gets a call about a strange crash.
Opening Credits
At Hal's motel room, Hal continues to tell his story while Michael is doodling in his notepad. Back to 1947. Max is playing the role of Richard Dodie, Hal's friend. Hal and Richie arrive at the crash site. Colonel Cassidy sees Hal and Richie and yells at them. Sheriff Valenti plays the role of Colonel Cassidy. Cassidy walks away. Carver sees one of the soldiers is loading stuff into a truck. A thin shiny object falls to the ground. Carver picks it up and crumples it in his hands. The object reverts back to its original shape. He shows Richie. Betty Osorio, a reporter, is trying to get information about the crash. (Maria plays the role of Betty) Deputy Valenti (played by Kyle) escorts her off the site. Captain Sheridan Cavitt approaches Hal. (Alex plays the role of Cavitt) He tells him to get a partner and take a truck directly to hangar 20.
Back to present day Roswell. Hal and Michael are outside. Hal tosses Michael the strange object he found in 1947. It was crumpled when Michael caught it, but immediately straightens out in his hand.
Back to 1947. Hal and Richie are driving the truck with the crash debris to Hangar 20. The truck starts to slow down. Hal looks ahead and sees a glowing white person in front of the truck. Hal appears to run it over with the truck. They pullover and get out to search for it. Richie takes a look in the back of the truck and sees a glowing, red, pulsating pod. Hal rushes back to the truck. Both Hal and Richie are stunned at what they see.
Scene changes to a bar. It's a hangout area for the military personnel. Carver and Richie are sitting at a table discussing what they saw. Richie gets up and leaves. Hal walks over to the counter to pay for the drinks. He runs in to Betty. They chat it appears as if she's been listening to their conversation. Hal goes back to the table and sit down. Cavitt, who saw Hal talking to Betty, immediately sits down at the table and lectures him about talking to her.
Scene shifts to Rosemary's bedroom. Isabel plays the role of Rosemary, Hal's girlfriend. Rosemary walks over to Hal and sits on his lap. They start making out. Hal sees someone outside watching them.
Back to present-day Roswell. Hal and Michael are at the Crashdown eating lunch. Maria walks up and starts talking to them. Michael is rude, she leaves. Hal starts to leave Michael stops him and tells him he'll take him out to his old hangouts to refresh his memory. Michael goes into the back and asks Maria for the Jetta. Maria mentions phone calls and Courtney. They argue. Maria gives it and gives him the keys.
Back to 1947. Hal meets Betty at a restaurant Betty leads Hal to one of the booths. Yvonne White, played by Liz, is waiting for them. he sees it's a setup and leaves.
Hal goes back to Rosemary's place and finds Deputy Valenti there. She tells him the Military police were there.
Hal arrives at the office very upset. He storms into Colonel Cassidy's office. Dixie (played by Tess), Cassidy's secretary greets him. He demands to know why Map's were at his girlfriends. He finds out he's been followed. Cassidy gives him an assignment dealing with 2 men who died in a jeep accident.
Hal goes to his desk and throws his lamp into the wall. He goes to a phone booth and calls Yvonne White. She tells him she's been transferred to London. And she's catching a bus to the airport tonight. He tells her to wait there. Yvonne and Hal meet inside his car. It's raining heavily outside. She tells him what she saw. Yvonne leaves and heads for the nearby bus. Suddenly, there is a loud scream. Hal rushes out. He finds nothing.
Hal goes back to the base. He talks to Dixie who leaves for a hair appointment. Hal takes a look at the "Confidential" folder on the desk. He goes to Hangar 20, where the crash debris was sent. Richie walks out of the hangar and stops Hal. He tells Hal to leave. Hal meets Betty on the side of a road. They exchange information. Hal gives her the "Confidential" folder.
Back to present day. Michael and Hal are off to the side of a road. Michael goes back to the Jetta and changes one of the beverages in the back seat into a bottle of beer. He gives it to Hal. Hal mentions Maria. And says he regrets not kissing Betty. Back to 1947. Richie is at the bar drinking his problems away. Hal walks up to him. They talk Hal tells Richie his plans. Hal leaves. One of the people in the back walks up to Richie. It's Cavitt, in civilian clothes. It seems they set carver up!
In the morning, Hal is looking through the newspaper. There is no mention of aliens at all. Hal calls Betty she's not there. Hal goes back to the base. He finds a letter of resignation left on his desk and goes directly to Cassidy's office. Richie is in Cassidy's office waiting for him. They argue Hal punches Richie in the face. Richie tells Hal to sign the Honorable discharge or else they'll take things further and motions towards some photos in a folder on the desk. They are pictures of Hal with Rosemary. Hal grudgingly signs the resignation letter.
Hal goes to the bar. Pete tells him he got something. Pete hands Hal an envelope. Inside is a message from Betty. There's a phone number and a key. Hal hurries to the phone to dial the number. Betty's sister picks up she tells him Betty's dead. And she was killed in a car accident yesterday off Highway 70.
Hal goes to the location on Betty's message and unlocks the door with the key that Betty left him. Inside the room are 8 alien pods, split into two groups of four pods. There are two doctors dead on the floor. There are silver hand prints on their chests. Hal starts snapping some pictures. He looks up in the mirror and sees two white glowing things behind the curtain. They come out and try to kill him he ducks. He figures out that they are only trying to save their babies (in the pods) He tells them to save them. Hal leaves the room. He sees 3 people about to enter the room and pulls on the fire alarm. Two of the soldiers pursue him. Hal escapes by climbing over a wire fence, but the camera drops to the ground on the other side. The two soldiers approach the fence, and Hal decides to run for it.
Back in present-day Roswell. Hal has set up some bottles on a truck and shoots at them with his gun. he tells Michael what was in the sacs, human fetuses. And there were 4 to a sac, 8 total. That was the night Hal left Roswell. He says he stuck his neck out to save them and it all went to hell. Michael reaches out his hand and blows up the bottles from a distance. He tells Hal that he saved him. He then turns to Hal who is having trouble lighting his cigarette. Michael creates a flame on his thumb. Hal and Michael hug.
At school, Liz is getting stuff out of her locker. Michael stops by and asks about Max. He tells her they'll figure out the whole Whitaker thing. And then apologizes for that morning. She asks if Max made him do that he says no. Michael starts to walk away. Liz tells him she likes it.
Michael has brought Maria to the granilith chamber. He explains why he hasn't been returning her phone calls. He thanks her for everything. And says he wants to include her in his life. And that now he's grateful for everyone. Hal Carver made an impact on him. Michael holds out both hands to Maria. He thanks her. Maria places her hands in Michael's. He tells her there's another set of pods, and they're somewhere out there. Episode ends with Michael and Maria standing in the granilith chamber.
