Bright Angel
Chapter 24

Melissa: The lights dimmed in the Fox and the stars came out, shining brightly against the dark blue blanket of sky. Amidst the darkness, I grinned at Hillary as the sound of drumbeats kicked in and the curtain dropped while the band lead into a cover of, “Magic Carpet Ride.” The crowd erupted in screams and frenzy as Taylor and his brothers started off the concert and I turned to Hillary again, who had let the excitement get the best of her. I laughed and instead of making fun of her, joined in shouting and dancing to the music. I let myself go wild as the music overcame me. No matter how much fun I was having dancing, my eyes remained fixed on the one thing that drew me in and wouldn’t let me go. His eyes wavered from me to the crowd in an attempt not be too obvious. Songs started and went and so did the eye contact and the slight gestures in my direction, especially during the love songs. I was completely pulled in by his soulful and passionate voice full of emotion and the mere sight of him made my heart jump. The end of the show was nearing, but I felt as if I could have watched him sing for hours on end my eyes remaining of the beautiful star in the spotlight. The guys walked off the stage after telling the crowd, “Atlanta Rocks! Thanks guys, you were awesome!” They’re absence was not long, and they soon returned for an encore. They chose to return with a cover of “I want you to want me,” with Zac on lead vocals and Taylor taking a turn on the drums. As Zac paced the stage shaking hands, Hillary jutted her hand out along with every girl in a 50-foot radius. Seeing her, he reached for her hand and unlike the other girls, gently kissed it, then let go to pace the other end of the stage. A girl behind us yelled at Hillary, “That’s so unfair,” and burst into sobs. Taking notice of the crying girl a row back, she turned and held in the laughter. This time, the band left the stage without the intention of coming back into the spotlight for another set and the stars faded on the ceiling as the lights in the theatre came up, marking the official end of another show. The hoard of people that had once filled the Fox minutes earlier, crammed and fought to get out into the street and to their homes. Hillary and I snuck backstage once again instead of making a mad dash to the exits like everyone else. We soon found the guys in their dressing room and as I opened the door, Hillary let out an “OMG! That was so awesome! Ya’ll kicked ass!” “Thanks,” Zac said walking towards the door to close it, then give her a hug. My eyes moved to Taylor, who hadn’t seen us walk in earlier and was busy placing a clean shirt over his head. I motioned to Hillary for her to shut up as I crept behind him and grabbed his waist. “Hey, baby. You were great.” “Thanks,” he said with a laugh as he pulled a hand up to kiss it and I rested my head on his shoulder. “What time is it,” I asked. “11:30,” Taylor answered kissing my hand again as I giggled. “We probably need to head out,” Hillary responded to the late time. “Yea,” I sighed kissing the back of his neck. “I don’t wanna leave,” I whispered in his ear. “I wish you didn’t have to either, but Hillary’s right, if you’re gonna beat curfew, ya’ll probably need to leave,” he told me pulling me around in front of him and kissing me. I moaned and whispered, “I love you.” “I love you too, angel.” I smiled this time, kissing him again, and then headed to the door. He held my hand as he followed me to the door, pulled me in and kissed my forehead. We sadly said our goodbyes and were soon in the car headed to Hillary’s, where this time I would be spending the night.
