Bright Angel
Chapter 14
Melissa: Hillary concluded her hilarious “tour”; with a little help from yours truly might I add, back in my room. “Cool room,” Taylor commented taking a seat in the red velvet butterfly chair. Both Hillary and Zac found a spot on the corner of the green queen bed and I made myself comfortable sitting in Taylor’s lap, with his head resting on my shoulder. “Ok, so what now,” I inquired to everyone around me. “How about we take the golf cart up to Blockbuster,” Hillary offered as Zac spurted excitedly, “You have a golf cart?!?” “Yep,” I said with a giggle and I felt Taylor’s warm breath on the back of my neck as he laughed. I felt good there and a whole lot more comfortable than I thought it would be. As we stood up to walk out of the colorful room and down stairs, I felt his hand slide around my waist and couldn’t help laughing. “What,” he asked. “Nothing,” I told him putting my hand on top of his. He smiled and I knew he understood. As I opened the door to the carport, I saw Zac’s eyes light up as he caught sight of the dark green golf cart parked the garage. “Zac, don’t even think about it,” he brother warned him. “Oh, can I drive it, please,” he pleaded. “Got your License,” Hillary started asking for me. “No, but I will soon.” “Soon ain’t gonna cut it, hun. Plus, Melissa’s parents are funny about who drives it and we don’t want you hitting any trees,” Hillary explained to the pouting 15 year old. “He gets it,” Taylor told her laughing. “Want shotgun with Melissa,” she asked him. “Not if you want it.” “Oh, take it, I’ll just get to ride shotgun tomorrow.” “Ok, cool. Thanks,” Taylor told her as we approached the cart, and after unplugging it from the charger, we all climbed in as I backed out the garage and headed for the path. We passed the lake and went through the woods and it was only a matter of time till we reached Blockbuster. After parking the cart, we went inside and headed straight for the new releases wall, and not finding anything that interested us, we resorted to the old ones in the seemingly hundreds of rows lining the store from front to back. Taylor and I took one row, while Zac and Hillary gladly flirted down another one. After a while, we lingered back over to the new releases and settled on “All the Pretty Horses”, one of my favorites that had just come out on video. We checked out and were quickly off again, in the golf cart in the woods, this time instead of an intelligent conversation, Hillary and I decided to sing songs, a result of way too much sugar in our sweet tea. However stupid we looked, it didn’t seem to bother the guys, who laughed at the whole thing. With me exaggerating the emotion of the song and Hillary just out of tune completely, but on purpose, we made or way back towards the lake.
