May 12, 2000 Mr. John Eisenberg Yesterday morning, I went through my usual routine...I got my Sunpaper, immediately thumbed to page 16 of the sports section to see if there was any Ravens news, then settled in to read the latest on the Orioles. Mike Mussina insists that his slow start is not related to his current contract negotiations. Mussina, as most Oriole fans know, is a sharp, intelligent, stand-up guy, one who has never made excuses. But who knows the situation better than Mike himself? Why, John Eisenberg of course! Dr. Eisenberg's "psycho" analysis would have us believe that Mussina is full of hogwash, that this "smart guy with a clear-headed sense of right and wrong" doesn't know what he's talking about. Eisenberg evens throws in an example of a mediocre player from the past (Mickey Tettleton) to buttress his theory. (psssst..John, even you could have hit home runs at Tiger Stadium) Mr. Eisenberg, uh...welcome to Baltimore. Mike Mussina
has battled through playing on losing teams, a line drive
to the head, a parade of pitching coaches and numerous
other distractions. A two-game rough stretch is not a
cause for panic, nor is it a cause for your Reader's
Digest-esque "I am Mike's Brain" ramblings.
Please stick to bad-mouthing and whining about management
and the lack of morals in today's athletic world. It is
your strength and no one does it better. |
