April 26, 2000 The Incredible World Wide Web My dad used to tell me that the easiest thing in the world to do was to take something for granted. How true. This little thing called the internet seems more amazing to me every day. In what other medium could I talk with sports fans from all over the country (any time of day), many of whom know more than the talking heads running these radio shows? No longer do I get my little Sunpaper and thumb to page 16 to see if there is any Ravens news. No longer do I have to wait for the 6 minute daily blip from John Buren. No longer do I have to call in and wait on hold before I can tell Rosenthal what I think of his doomsdaying. Amazing. Where else can my kids go to learn about anything that they can imagine? Day or night. What a gift. Where else can a schlub like me have his own little space for anyone to see, enjoy it or not? Better than talk radio, better than TV, better than the newspaper, better than the telephone. Friends, education, chat ...news, stats, information and highlights at will. The internet -- what could be better? |
