The Bridal Shower

Saturday October 23 - Sunday October 24th, 1999

Well its finally here - the big shower weekend.  I feel like I have been talking about this forever with my mom and the bridesmaids (I'm sure they feel the same!).  Kim stayed over at my house in Somerville Friday night so we could get an early start Saturday morning.  We were at Hang's by 7:15 a.m., a quick and vital stop at Dunkin Donuts, to Trang's by 7:40 and then to Pam's right before 8:00 a.m.  We regrouped into the two cars and were off, down the Pike, down 84 and home to Pennsylvania.  We made incredible time - to Wilkes-Barre in under 5 hours.  Unheard of.  Hmmmm....so we stop at McDonald's for lunch to kill some time (and because we're hungry), which is not a problem since there is a track and baseball team there.  An hour later we're back on the road and stop at my grandparents in Sugar Notch to pick them up.  My grandmother has put out quite a spread with tea and pastries so we relax there for awhile as well!  Yum!  Then we're once again back on the road (re: cow path) to Williamsport.  The drive the whole way was beautiful - probably the lat good weekend of leaf peeping and we are in the heart of it.  I love living in the city, but its always nice to come home - much more relaxing and peaceful- calms my road rage!

We get to Williamsport around 4:30.  All in all not a bad trip considering all of our stops.  We stop at my house briefly to drop off my grandparents and then I take the girls to the Holiday Inn rush home pick up my parents and we are off to Williamsport Airport to pick up Mike's mom, Judy.  Her plane is right on time so we head back home to relax a bit and then have dinner and get to work preparing for tomorrows festivities!  My mother and grandmother truly outdid themselves with the food.  And considering some of the parties we have had in the past this is saying a lot.  My grandmother must have made 10 different kinds of cookies!  And my mother...lets just say I don't think anyone will be eating chicken for a long time!  There was so much food!  After dinner my mother put the girls to work first making the shower favors and then making the baked chicken and finishing some of the deserts.  It was a very busy night!  Finally, exhausted, the girls went back to their hotel and we all went to bed!

The next morning was an early one - there were at least 10 trays of baked chicken, not to mention the baked ziti, ham, kielbasa, and meatballs that had to be baked.  Somehow it all got done by 11 am!  The girls arrived by 9:30 and were once again a great help putting out all the appetizers and making the famous Bustin Party Punch.  Although the shower wasn't until 1, people began arriving around 11:30 and almost everyone was there by 12:30.  It was so much fun - so many of my relatives were there that I hadn't seen in ages.  I feel like I didn't get to spend as much time with everyone as I would have liked but hopefully we'll all be together soon.  We got down to the serious business first - the food - and then moved on to the gift opening.  Everyone was so kind and thoughtful - the gifts were all wonderful.  Thanks to everyone - you all made it a very special day!  I've posted some of the photos here - enjoy!

And in case anyone missed it...my Aunt Kathy is the Godmother :-)
