Karaka "Services" 7's Team
Karaka Rugby Club has a new team, the
Karaka “Services” 7’s Team.
The team comprises of Police officers from
throughout the Counties Manukau District, and is focused on sevens
tournaments in both New Zealand and overseas.
In the teams first competitive outing in Te
Awamutu earlier this year, they made it through to the quarter finals
in the tough Waikato Invitational 7’s Tournament. At the start of
April the team will compete at the Inaugural World Super Games in
Christchurch. This is a combined services competition for Police,
Army, Navy, Airforce, Paramedics, Prison and Fire Service personnel
from around the world.
The Super Games, from March 30 – April 8,
are expected to be the largest sporting event that Christchurch has
seen since it hosted the Commonwealth Games. The Karaka “Services”
7’s Team is expecting some formidable opponents, including teams from
the Fijian Army and Police.
Later in the year, the team will be
competing at the annual New Zealand Police seven-a-side tournament,
in Palmerston North and the Australian Police Games being held in the
Gold Coast in November.
The members of the Karaka “Services” 7’s
Team would like to thank all members from all sporting codes at
Karaka for the warm welcome and for the great support that has been
received. The team hopes to repay you all with some hard fought
silverware from the various 7’s tournaments.
Wishing you all a very safe and successful
winter season,
Karaka “Services” 7’s Team
