To cap off the end of a great rugby season,
Karaka Senior team & supporters headed off to Hawaii for the
Hawaiian Rugby Tournament held on the island of Oahu. The sporting
venue was held at Kapiolani Park, at the foot of Diamond Head Crater.
Three days of tough, competitive rugby and Karaka made it into the
finals, only to be beaten in the last game. Besides the rugby, the
players and supporters managed to squeeze in time for shopping,
surfing, and that ever-popular pastime, “people watching” on Waikiki
Beach.
A scheduled and much-appreciated stop in
Fiji on the way home ensured plenty more sun, fun and relaxation to
rest the weary muscles. The Karaka entourage spent 4 idyllic days at
Mana Island Resort, which was sunny, lush and tropical. The Karaka
team and supporters made new friends at every turn with the locals,
who are all clearly devoted to rugby.
Overall a very successful rugby tour, for
the promotion and camaraderie of the sport.
