Canyons 93, Pasadena 88 (OT)

PG Brian Kimble and Ctr Brannon Bradley each had 25 pts as host Canyons (2-0) outlasted Pasadena (1-1) in the final game of the 2nd annual Clash At Canyons Tip-Off Event in Santa Clarita.

Canyons began the game strong, jumping out to a 6-0 lead as the Lancers turned the ball over on its first three possessions. That theme continued as the Cougars built a 32-11 lead with 8:22 left in the first half after back-to-back 3-pointers by Bradley and SF Rendon Dominguez.

Pasadena went to a press, which got the Lancers back into the game, cutting the margin to just 4 points at halftime to trail, 42-38. Then SG Jordan Block scored a pair of baskets in the first 32 seconds of the second half to tie the score at 42.

The lead went back and forth the rest of regulation, and Canyons had a 3-point lead at 79-76 until PF Elliott Berry hit a 3-pointer for Pasadena to tie the score at 79 with 15 seconds left, sending it to overtime.

It was still tied at 86 in the final minute of overtime, but by now both Berry and SF Tony Adams had already fouled out. Pasadena had the ball when Rendon Dominguez of Canyons grabbed a steal and got the ball to Kimble, who passed to Bradley for a basket to give COC a lead with 50 seconds left. Pasadena SF Dannin Harris missed a would-be tying shot, and PF Garry Bradley got the rebound for Canyons. Kimble made a pair of free throws to make it 90-86 with 28 seconds left.

Pasadena still had time to rally, but moments later SG Shawn Hampton was called for an offensive foul. The Lancers were then forced to foul, and Kimble made 1 of 2 FTs with 21 seconds left to make it 91-86. Pasadena briefly got back within 3 points at 91-88 after a pair of FTs by Hampton, but a pair of FTs by SF Chris Knott with 8 seconds left sealed the win for Canyons, making it 93-88.

Kimble finished with 25 pts, 7 rebs and 7 asts, and B. Bradley had 25 pts plus 14 rebs for Canyons. Rendon Dominguez had 12 pts, including 4 threes, and 4 steals. PF Parker Dominguez had 12 pts before fouling out with 1:45 left in regulation. G. Bradley came off the bench for 10 pts and 8 rebs.

For Pasadena, Block led the way with 25 pts, 4 rebs, 3 asts and 3 steals. Berry overcame a horrific start, missing his first 6 shots and committing 4 turnovers before he scored a point, to finish with 23 pts, 11 rebs and 3 asts. Ctr Marcus Harvey came off the bench for 11 pts, 6 rebs and 3 blocks. 5-foot-7 PG Terrell Jones sparked the first-half comeback, coming off the bench for 7 pts and a game-high 9 asts. Adams also helped in the comeback with 9 pts, 3 asts and 5 steals.

Though the match-ups in this event were pre-determined, this game served as an effective championship game since both COC and Pasadena won on the event's first day.

Amazingly enough, the day before the Canyons football team defeated Pasadena...also in overtime! box score
