Orange Coast 72, SD City 70 (OT)

SF Chris Williams scored 5 of his 10 pts in overtime, and Ctr Jake Fedro came off the bench to score 17 pts as Orange Coast (4-3) edged San Diego City (2-4), 72-70, in the third place game of the Neil Edwards Classic at Citrus College in Glendora.

In a turnover and foul-filled affair, OCC went on a 17-3 run in the second half to wipe out a 10-point SD City lead and take a 61-57 edge with under four minutes left. SD City rallied and took a 64-62 lead with 1:12 left on a 3-ponter by SF Sterling Jones, but Williams scored with 54 seconds left to get the Pirates even, and the game went to OT.

And in OT, Williams kept scoring, tallying almost as many points in the extra session (5) as the SD City team (6). His free throw with 1:56 left broke a 68-68 tie, and his basket after a steal by SG Loren McLean made it 71-68.

SD City cut the margin to 71-70 after Ctr Anthony Calhum put back his own miss with 38 seconds left. And after Fedro made one of two free throws with 10 seconds left, SD City had a chance to tie or win in the final seconds. But SF Dunnell Webb Jr. missed a contested 3-pointer just before the buzzer sounded.

Orange Coast held a 35-32 lead after an evenly-played first half that saw neither team led by more than four points. But SD City took advantage of some frigid OCC shooting - the Pirates missed 16 of their first 17 shots of the second half - and built a 54-44 lead after a basket by Webb with 7:55 left.

But then Orange Coast heated up, scoring the game's next 10 points to pull even at 54 after a 3-pointer by PF Brandon Gee with 5:25 left. After a free throw by SD City's PG Jason Sanchez, OCC went into the lead on McLean's fallaway jumper. After that, neither team led by more than four points again.

For OCC, Fedro led the way with his 17 pts. Gee came off the bench for 12 pts, while Williams and McLean each had 10. Williams also had 7 rebs, 3 asts and 3 steals, and was named to the All-Tournament team.

For SD City, Webb led all scorers with 20 pts, and got the double-double with 11 rebs. SG Steven Aldridge had 10 pts and 5 asts, and Ctr Travis Wilson had 10 pts and 9 rebs before fouling out with 2:30 left in regulation. PF Abdi Faras had 6 pts and a game-high 13 rebs.

SD City lost despite an overpowering 61-38 rebounding edge. But the Knights also committed 33 turnovers and shot just 34% from the floor. OCC had 21 turnovers and shot 39% from the floor.

Webb joined Williams on the All-Tournament team.
