San Bernardino Valley 93, Santa Barbara 74

#1-ranked San Bernardino Valley showed why they are the team to beat this year in California, leading most of the way in an impressive 93-74 romp over Santa Barbara in the first round of the Condor Classic at Oxnard Friday afternoon.

Five players scored in double figures for SBVC, which shot 57.7% from the floor for the game. The Wolverines built a 16-point halftime lead, made their first 4 shots of the second half to push the margin to 23, and were never threatened the rest of the way.

SBVC jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the first four minutes of the game. Santa Barbara rallied, tying the score at 10 and taking a 22-21 lead on a 3-pointer by PG David Lane midway through the first half.

But then SBVC went back in front, scoring the game's next 8 points to take a 29-22 lead. Santa Barbara cut the margin back to a single point at 29-28, but then SBVC pulled away for good.

A 3-point play by PG Nate Roth pushed the lead to double digits for the first time at 40-30 with 3:46 left in the first half. But SBVC continued to build its lead, finishing the half on a 22-6 run that became a 30-7 run including the first two minutes of the second half, and Santa Barbara just couldn't keep up.

PF Maurice McGee led all scorers with 20 pts, coming off the bench when Ctr Orlando Brazier picked up two quick fouls to start the game. Brazier sat the rest of the half, but still managed to score 15 pts, 13 in the second half. PF Aaron Edwards had 13 pts and 8 rebs, SF Tre Brewer had 11 pts on 5-for-6 from the floor, and Roth had 10 pts plus a team-high 7 asts.
