Ctr Favor Irvin had 24 pts and 19 rebs to lead West LA (3-1) to a 71-63 win over Cerro Coso (1-2) Tuesday night in Culver City.
Irvin had 12 of her points and 15 of her rebounds in the first half as the Oilers built a 29-24 halftime lead.
Cerro Coso rallied in the second half and took a 47-42 lead with 8:08 left after SF Samantha Harrison's 4th 3-pointer of the game. But then West LA went on a 14-2 run to go back in front, 56-48, with just over 4 minutes remaining.
Cerro Coso stayed close and trailed by just 4 at 62-58 with just over a minute left, but that was as close as the Coyotes would get. PG Eliza Berry made 4 free throws and a lay-up in the final minute for West LA to secure the win.
In addition to the near 20-20 game, Irvin dished out a team-high 5 asts and grabbed 4 steals. SF Cee-Cee Jeffries had 22 pts, including 4 threes, 7 rebs and 5 steals for the winners. And PF Kee-Kee Jeffries posted a double-double with 12 pts and 13 rebs plus 3 steals.
For Cerro Coso, PF Sherena Gene had a double-double with 18 pts and 11 rebs. Harrison added 16 pts and PF Jacque Marshall came off the bench to contribute 15 pts and 7 rebs. Ctr Mariah Bomberry had 6 pts plus 11 rebs and a game-high 6 asts.
