Antelope Valley 63, LA Southwest 59

SF Deonte Huff scored 21 pts and grabbed 11 rebs to lead Antelope Valley (4-5) to a 63-59 win over #14 LA Southwest (4-4) in the 3rd Place game at the Oxnard Tournament.

Huff had an excellent all-around game, adding 6 asts and 5 steals to his scoring and rebound totals. For the weekend, he led all tournament scorers with 80 points and was named to the all-tourney team.

AVC opened an early 29-12 lead after 4 threes by SG Gary Thomas, only to see the Cougars rally to within a point at 30-29 after a jumper by PG Carl Munns. The Marauders then pushed their lead back to 10 points at halftime, finishing the half on a 9-0 run.

In the second half, AVC again led the whole way, but again they allowed LASW to close the gap. The Cougars rallied to trail by just 2 at 61-59 after a free throw by PF Brandon Turner in the final minute. But Thomas drained a pair of free throws with 6.5 seconds left to seal the win for AVC.

Thomas finished with 14 pts for the Marauders. SG Donte Bell added 9 pts and 6 asts. PF Rob Bates grabbed 7 rebs.

For Southwest, Ctr Rawlston Charles led the way with 16 pts and 8 rebs. SF Steve Gaston, who didn't play at all in the first half, had 12 pts and 3 steals. PF Brandon Turner, who at 6-3 played guard last year at Irvine Valley, led the Cougars with 11 rebs. Munns had a strong game with 7 pts, 6 asts and 6 steals.
