LA Valley 83, Oxnard 69

DeJwan Walker, Kevin Cabrera and Tyler Williams each scored 17 pts as LA Valley rallied from an early 13-point deficit to post its first win of the season Wednesday evening over visiting Oxnard at the Monarch Sports Pavilion in Valley Glen.

LA Valley (1-2) fell behind early as Oxnard scored first first 6 points of the game, took a 17-7 lead on a 3-pointer by Igli Pirgu and led, 22-9, midway through the first half.

Valley rallied to cut the margin to just 2 points to trail, 26-24, with just under 4 minutes left in the first half. But Oxnard (1-3) scored the game's next 7 points to lead, 33-24, and held a 33-27 advantage at the half.

The second half, however, was a different story entirely as the host Monarchs shot nearly 60% from the floor and scored 56 points to pull away for their first win of the season.

Cabrera gave Valley its first lead of the night when he converted a 3-point play with 14:17 left, making it 40-38. Dominick Alexander answered with a 3-point field goal for Oxnard to put the Condors back in front, 41-40, but then Valley went on a 10-0 run and led the rest of the way.

Elijah Kirkland-Cuffee capped the 10-0 run with a three-pointer that made it 50-41 with just under 12 minutes to play. The lead reached as many as 20 points after a 3-point play by Walker wth 6:13 left that made it 70-50, and Valley led by double figures the remainder of the game.

Walker finished with 17 pts, 9 rebs, a game-high 7 asts, 2 blocked shots and 3 steals. Cabrera had 17 pts, 5 rebs, 2 blocks and 5 steals. Williams came off the bench for 17 pts on 5-for-7 from the floor and 7-for-8 from the free throw line, and added 5 rebs, 4 asts and 2 steals. Kirkland-Cuffee had 13 pts, 7 rebs and 2 blocks.

For Oxnard, Alexander led all scorers with 22 pts, including 4 three-pointers, and he also had 7 rebs, 3 asts and 5 steals. Jakari McClain had 15 pts, 4 rebs, an assist, a block and 2 steals.
