The top prep school on the West Coast, Stoneridge Prep, travelled to Lancaster Monday night to play a two-part scrimmage against Antelope Valley College.
The format was that there were two 20-minute scrimmages (the scoreboard was turned back to zeroes between the 20-minute segments).
In the first segment, neither team led by more than 4 points, and appropriately enough it ended in a tie. AVC led 29-27 after a pair of free throws by JaVaughn Espritt with 46.8 seconds left, but Stoneridge's Troy Gillenwater made a pair of free throws in the last half-minute to deadlock the score at 29.
In the second segment, Stoneridge Prep held on for a 42-39 win. Stoneridge led 38-36 in the last minute when AVC's Robert Arnold stole the ball. But Arnold, Marcellus Robertson and Rani Chaoui all missed potential game-tying shots. Angelo Johnson and Charles Boozer each made a pair of free throws in the final 27.1 seconds to secure the win for Stoneridge.
