Pitino-ball is alive and well in Fresno, as the FCC Rams ran, trapped and shot threes in their 100-85 win over host Bakersfield. The Rams shot 13 threes and forced 30 turnovers including 16 steals to build a 53-36 halftime lead, and led by at least 15 for most of the second half.
G Tyrone Jackson led the way for Fresno with 25 pts, 7 asts, 5 rebs and 5 steals. The Rams got big games from their bench: G Tyson Parker (19 pts on 5/6 FGs and 8/8 FTs), G Jason Walberg (10 pts, 6 rebs and 5 asts) and F Chad Thornton-King (15 pts, 5 rebs). Starting Ctr Carl Lee had 11 pts (on 5/7 FGs) and 8 rebs despite being plagued with foul trouble all night.
Bakersfield was led by C Menelik Barbary, who had 26 pts (12/17 FGs), 9 rebs and 4 blocks. F Peter Rajniak tossed in 28 pts (11/18 FGs) including 22 in the second half. PG Shaun Lake claimed game honors with 9 asts.
Remarkably, the Renegades shot 54% from the floor on the night, but the 30 turnovers hurt. Fresno shot 50% for the game, but that figure was 54% in the first half when they had 9 three-pointers.
