Mt. San Antonio 77, LA Pierce 49 (women)

Morgan Mason scored 22 points to lead #1 Mt. San Antonio to a wire-to-wire win over #17 LA Pierce in a regional quarterfinal game Saturday night in Walnut to run Mt. SAC's record to a perfect 30-0.

Mt. San Antonio (30-0) jumped out to an early 19-4 lead. LA Pierce (17-13), which advanced to this game with a 63-55 win over Riverside on Wednesday, rallied with a 9-0 run to get within six points at 19-13 midway through the first half.

But then Mt. San Antonio went on a 19-0 run, which included a half-hour delay due to an injury to Pierce's Zenith Hernandez. She was injured in a collision under the basket, and stayed on the floor until EMS arrived and took her away on a stretcher.

Mt. SAC held a 38-13 lead after the run, and led, 38-17, at halftime.

Pierce cut the deficit to 19 points a couple of times early in the second half, but never really threatened to end Mt. SAC's unbeaten streak. Mt. SAC stretched the lead past 30 points on a 3-pointer by Bobbi Hawkins that made it 63-32 with just over 8 minutes left.

Mason led all scorers with 22 pts and added 7 rebs, 3 asts and 3 steals. Leticia Galarza had 12 pts, 5 rebs and 5 asts. Tatianna Parish added 10 pts off the bench, and Ashley Burchfield had 9 pts and a game-high 14 rebs.

Kameron Jones led Pierce with 19 pts and added 6 rebs and 5 blocked shots. Gasla Sarkis had 9 pts, 8 rebs, 3 asts, 4 blocks and 3 steals. Nichelae Henderson had 6 pts and a game-high 7 steals. But Pierce committed 35 turnovers for the game.

With the win, Mt. SAC stays unbeaten and advances to the next round against a very strong Long Beach City team that drew a #8 seed despite a 23-4 record.
