Twelve players scored as #7 Santa Barbara (19-7, 7-1) routed host Moorpark (6-19, 1-7) in a WSC-North Division game Wednesday night.
The game gave SBCC a chance to get its bench players some playing time, and SG Roni Gordon took full advantage, making 5 threes and scoring a team-high 17 pts. Ctr Brittany Collins added 11 pts and 7 rebs while PF Jestlynn Tatum had 10 pts and 9 rebs as the SBCC reserves outscored the Moorpark reserves, 58-0.
Moorpark started the game well enough, taking a 2-0 lead on a jumper by PF Hayley MacArthur. After SG Kelli Lem made a pair of free throws for SBCC to tie the game, Moorpark got a FG+FT 3-point play from SF Sara Nicholson to go back in front, 5-2. Then Nicholson scored on a nice feed from PG Jessica Zuehlsdorf to go ahead by 5 at 7-2.
Santa Barbara scored the next 7 points, taking a 9-7 lead on a basket by Tatum. After MacArthur scored for Moorpark to tie the game, SBCC went back in front on a basket by Ctr Sara Rudorfer. Nicholson made a free throw to draw Moorpark back to within a point at 11-10.
But then came a 31-0 SBCC run, and Moorpark didn't score the rest of the half. A three by SF Kathryn Scardino pushed the lead to double digits at 21-10 and a free throw by Collins put SBCC ahead by 20 at 30-10. A basket by Collins on an assist from Scardino made it 36-10 at the half. Finally, 2:48 into the second half, Nicholson made a free throw to end the drought for Moorpark, but by then the rout was on; that free throw made it 42-11.
For Moorpark, Nicholson carried most of the load, scoring a game-high 19 pts and tying for game honors with 9 rebs. Ctr Krystin Christ had 4 pts, 4 rebs, 5 blocks and 3 steals. MacArthur had 4 pts and 4 rebs before fouling out with just over two minutes left.
