Ventura (17-3, 2-0) scored the game's first 5 points and never trailed. Hernandez made two 3-pointers to give VC an 11-4 lead, and comploeted a 4-point play to push the margin to 15-6. Then she made 2 free throws to make it 17-6.
Allan Hancock (10-8, 0-3) cut the deficit to six points at 23-17, but never got any closer. Sanchez made a short jumper to complete an 8-0 run and push the lead to 14 points at 31-17 late in the first half, and Ventura led, 38-24, at the half.
Ventura led by double digits the entire second half. Allan Hancock got within 11 points at 48-37 with about 13 minutes left, but then Ventura went on a 9-2 run to push the lead to 18 points at 57-39. Two free throws by Hernandez made it a 20-point game at 67-47 with 2:45 left.
Hernandez led all scorers with her 23 points, which came on a game-high 6 three-pointers. Sanchez had 13 points plus 6 rebs, a game-high 9 asts and a team-high 3 steals. Brooke Dixon just missed a double-double with 12 pts on 5-for-5 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the line and a game-high 9 rebs.
For Hancock, Celina Calderon scored 13 pts, which included 4 three-pointers, and added 4 asts and 3 steals before fouling out with 2:45 left. Veronica Sua had 12 pts, 3 rebs and 4 asts, and Justine Roland had 11 pts and a team-high 6 rebs.
