San Francisco 70, Skyline 57

Ctr Chris Adams scored 21 pts and PF Eto Onyengecha added 18 plus 12 rebs to lead host CCSF (15-11) past rival Skyline (15-12) Friday night before a nearly-empty gym.

CCSF shot 58% from the floor in the second half to pull away after having led by a single point at the break. Adams' 3-pointer with just over 3 mins left put the final punctuation mark on the CCSF win. Skyline shot just 33% from the floor in the second half, and were weakened when Ctr Tremaine Fuqua fouled out with 9:13 to play.

The whole game had a surreal feel, and it took both teams a few minutes to get warmed up. During the final minutes of the womens game, there was a brief 2-man scuffle in the stands. That was broken up without any real problems, but fearing further disturbances the decision was made to clear the gym of all fans, leaving just the teams, officials and the media to watch the game. Tip-off didn't occur until about 8:45 pm.

After the game started, it remained 0-0 for several minutes. CCSF missed its first 7 shots of the night, and Skyline committed 4 turnovers and a missed shot on its first possession. Finally, SG Eldrige Henderson of Skyline broke the seal with a bank shot about 3 minutes in.

Soon CCSF found its legs and sprinted to a 12-4 lead. But it remained close throughout the first half, even after Fuqua picked up his 3rd foul of the night with 8:46 left in the half and sat down. The score at the half was 29-28 CCSF. Onyenegecha has 12 pts and 8 rebs at the break to lead the Rams.

The second half belonged to CCSF. SF Jamal Holden scored 11 pts and grabbed 4 rebs, all in the second half, and spurred the Rams to the win. Adams scored 13 pts after the break.

Skyline's Fuqua reentered the game with just over 3 mins gone in the second half, and promptly picked up his 4th foul chasing Holden after a steal. When he was called for his 5th foul (holding Adams) with 9:13 to play, he finished with just 4 pts and 3 rebs. At that time, Skyline trailed 47-38.

The Trojans stayed close into the last 5 mins, trailing just 58-49, until Adams scored 7 pts including his 3-pointer to clinch the win.

Henderson led Skyline with 14 pts (on 6/9 shooting). SF Jason Holman added 13 pts. PF Rod Picou grabbed 7 rebs. But Skyline committed 23 turnovers (CCSF had 13 steals) and shot just .396 for the night.

CCSF was led by Adams and Onyenegecha in scoring and rebounds, respectively. PG Bobby Barnes came off the bench to hand out a game-high 7 asts including 5 in the second half.

SPECIAL THANKS to statman John Frank and Coach Raffetto of Skyline for letting me be part of their entourage so I could stick around!!! Sorry I couldn't get you guys a win - I guess that only works at your place!

CCSF shot .583 (14/24) in 2nd half while Skyline shot .33 (8/24). Fuqua was plagued by foul trouble all night. Adams was as well, to a lesser degree, but stayed on the floor until the outcome had been decided. The gym was cleared after a brief scuffle in the stands during the women's game - thanks to Skyline's John Frank and Coach Raffetto for letting me be part of their entourage so I could stick around!
