Ventura 72, Allan Hancock 61 (women)

Ctr Veronica Williams came off the bench to scored a game-high 19 pts while PF Rebecca Kolbeck added 17 as host #7 Ventura (19-9, 8-1) topped Allan Hancock (9-17, 3-5) to remain atop the WSC-North.

After AHC took a 6-2 lead in the early minutes of the game, Ventura went on a 14-0 run to build a 10-point lead at 16-6. Hancock rallied to cut the margin to 4 points, but Ventura continued to lead and held a 39-28 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, Hancock got baskets from Louise Madrigal and Katie Rucks to cut the lead to 39-32, but then Ventura went on a 17-6 run to build the lead to 18 at 56-38. A late AHC rally got the lead back to single digits after a pair of free throws by Jessica Manuelito with 1:29 left made it 67-58. But Williams scored on a short jumper with 1 minute left and made a pair of free throws with 24.2 seconds remaining to build the lead back to double digits.

The reserves were key for Ventura in the win: Williams also grabbed 5 rebs in addition to her game-high 19 pts. PG McKena Richardson also gave Ventura a big game off the bench with 12 pts, 4 rebs and 4 asts. And SG Misty Alvarado had 8 pts and 7 boards. Kolbeck was the only starter to reach double figures in scoring though PG Medina Britt had 7 pts and a team-high 5 asts. Another key factor was that Ventura had just 10 turnovers while Hancock committed 25.

For Allan Hancock, DeWitt, Madrigal and Manuelito each scored 14 points. DeWitt also had 6 reb, 4 asts, 3 blocks and 2 steals. Manuelito dished out a game-high 7 asts.
