#7-San Bernardino Valley (19-5, 8-1) had four scorers reach double figures and edged host Antelope Valley (13-12, 6-3), 62-59, Saturday evening to keep pace atop the Foothill Conference.
SF Ashleigh Frazier came off the bench to score 13 pts, PG Jasmine Marshall had 11 pts, 5 rebs, 5 asts and 4 steals, and SF Ronisha Edwards and SG LaQuita Jordan each had 10 pts for SBVC.
But it was PF Simeone Baker who scored the go-ahead basket, on a feed from Edwards with 1:05 remaining to break a 58-58 tie. After AVC pulled to within a point at 60-59 with 36.6 seconds left, Edwards and Marshall each added a free throw in the final 27.6 seconds to make it 62-59.
AVC had one last chance to tie the game, but SG Carleigh Hobson's 3-point attempt at the buzzer missed.
This one was close all the way, with SBVC holding a 36-32 lead at halftime but both teams holding the lead in both halves. The largest lead of the game for either team was SBVC's 8-2 run to start the game when AVC missed its first 6 shots from the floor.
AVC took its last lead when PG Brittney Lloyd scored to make it 48-45 after a steal by SF Shakira Autry. But SBVC then went on a 13-4 run to take a 6-point lead at 58-52 with 5:08 remaining.
AVC rallied from that deficit, scoring the game's next 6 points to tie it 58-58 after a lay-up by Lloyd with 1:27 left. But then came Baker's basket that put SBVC back in front just 18 seconds later, and SBVC never lost that lead.
AVC's Hobson led all scorers with 17 pts, while Lloyd added 14 for the Marauders. PF Autumn Arlington had just 6 pts but grabbed a game-high 12 rebs. And 6-4 Ctr Tracy Wittebolle had just 5 pts, but pulled down 11 rebs and blocked 7 SBVC shots.
With the win, SBVC maintains the pace atop the Foothill Conference; Mt. San Jacinto also entered play Saturday with just one conference loss. AVC drops to 6-3 and is solidly in fourth place in the conference.
