#2 Ventura (26-5) ran its WSC-North record to 11-0 with a 73-33 throttling of visiting Oxnard (11-15, 1-10) Wednesday night at the Ventura Athletic Event Center.
SF Indira Kaljo had a double-double with 16 pts and 11 rebs, while SG Eja Wong had 15 pts and Ctr Julie Heurung had 12 for the Pirates, who led virtually the entire game.
The Ventura defense held Oxnard to just 21% shooting, and outrebounded the Condors, 57-27, on the night.
Oxnard led, 3-2, after a 3-pointer by SG Awilda Hernandez in the early going, but after that it was all Ventura. The Pirates scored the game's next 6 points to take an 8-3 lead, pushed the margin into double figures at 16-5 on a basket by SG Lindsay Trout and led, 23-7, late in the first half.
Oxnard rallied to cut the margin to 12 at halftime, and trailed by just 10 early in the second half, but then Ventura went on an 18-0 run to take a 48-20 lead midway through the second half. Kaljo drained three straight 3-pointers to spur the run, and also added a lay-up on a pass from Trout.
After a free throw by Ctr Tonee Martin finally broke Oxnard's scoreless streak, Wong drained a three for Ventura to push the lead to 30 at 51-21 and end any remaining doubt about the game's outcome.
Martin led Oxnard with 13 pts and 9 rebs.
