Saddleback 75, Riverside 63 (women)

PG Cassie Klockgether had 22 pts and 7 asts to lead #8 Saddleback (19-7, 8-4) to a 75-63 win over host Riverside (10-19, 4-8) Friday night in OEC play. SG Ashley Price added 20 pts, including 4 threes and SF Joy Mason had 15 in the victory.

The game started slowly for both teams as Saddleback missed its first 10 shots from the floor and Riverside turned the ball over on each of its first 5 possessions. Once both teams settled down, Riverside jumped to a 9-4 lead.

But Saddleback’s Price wiped out that lead with a pair of threes, putting her team in front, 10-9. The lead went back and forth the rest of the half before Saddleback got a three by Mason and a short jumper by Klockgether, sandwiched around a basket by Riverside’s PG Jatarra Pryor, to take a 31-28 lead at the break.

In the second half, Saddleback pushed the lead to 6 points in the first minute as Klockgether made 3 free throws (on 4 attempts) to make it 34-28. The lead reached 8 at 38-30 after a pair of baskets by Rekeshia Jones, both on passes from Klockgether.

Saddleback continued to lead, but Riverside stayed within a few points until a three by Klockgether pushed the lead to 11 at 64-53 with just over 6 minutes left. SF Taneika Calhoun answered with a pair of free throws for Riverside, but then Saddleback got a jumper from Price, 3 free throws from Mason and a lay-up from Klockgether to push the lead to 14 at 71-57 and put the game away.

Another standout for Saddleback was Jones, who posted a double-double with 12 pts and 10 rebs, scoring 10 of her points in the second half. PF Keshia Moore added 6 pts and 6 rebs. Backup PG Kelsey Paopao did not score but dished out 4 asts.

For Riverside, PG Debbie Barragan had 14 pts and 3 asts, while Pryor had 13 pts and 4 asts. Calhoun had a double-double with 10 pts plus a game-high 12 rebs. PF Kayla Huckabee just missed a double-double with 10 pts and 9 rebs.
