PG Travis Sobers and SG Ryan Mathews each scored 20 pts and Barstow (6-15, 2-8 in Foothill Conference) started the second half on a 10-0 run to break open a tight game and post a 22-point win at Victor Valley (2-19, 1-9).
Sobers had a huge game with 20 pts on 8/13 shooting, plus game-highs of 10 rebs and 7 asts. He also registered 3 steals. And Mathews had a big night as well, knocking down 5 threes and making 7 of 12 shots in all.
Barstow threatened to blow the Rams out of the building in the early going, jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the first 2 minutes and pushing that lead to 13 at 20-7 a few minutes later. But VVC rallied behind 3-pointers from PG Hakeem Clark and SG Jason Eakins, and when Eakins made 2 FTs Barstow's lead was just 5 at 20-15. VVC stayed close the rest of the half, briefly pulling to within 3 at 31-28 before ending the half trailing by 5 at 37-32.
But when the second half started, Barstow pulled away. PF Jason Lucas scored on a putback to begin a 10-0 run that gave the Vikings a 15-point lead at 47-32 after a short jumper by Mathews. At that point, VVC was 0/4 from the floor with 7 turnovers for its first 11 possessions of the second half. Then, after a free throw by VVC's Romale Porter, Sobers knocked down a three to make it 50-33. Barstow cruised the rest of the way.
VVC lost despite a strong game from SG Maurice Andrews, who scored a game-high 23 pts. PF Sean Ogilvie had 11 pts though he missed most of the second half with foul trouble. Clark had a strong game off the bench with 7 pts, 6 asts and 5 steals.
With the win, Barstow improves to 2-8 in conference. And with the loss, the Rams of Victor Valley fall to 1-9, all but ensuring a last-place finish in the Foothill Conference.
